    Hi All,

My 9 year old lab Denzel has had 3 operations all for Elbow Dysplasia and we have been clear for 4 years, until this week! We have notice the odd limp on the RHS over the last 6where he has 2 procedures on previously , he has further X-rays this week to be told that his inner elbow is not in a great way. The inner elbow is apparently in a non repairable way and is bone on bone creating a lot of discomfort for him. After speaking to the specialist I am so unsure of what to do next and whether to get a 2nd opinion on what I have been told, it is the same specialist that has treated Denzel on all occasions which does give me hope. The surgery they are recommended is classed as a novel survey and has only been completed 50 times in the UK so there is not a lot of history to go on. The procedure would be to replace the inner elbow only (the outer elbow bone is good condition) so a complete elbow replacement is not required. which is some good news. My concerns are General Aesthetic again but the recovery time can be upto 8 months and he will be lame for a considerable time as he recovers. I wanted to ask if anybody else has experienced this with their own dog and also has anyone looked for a 2nd opinion and how I would look to go around this. Just wanted to ask for some general advice, Denzel is a healthy active lab and had no weight issues, he is has signs of arthritis which we manage daily but I want to ensure I make the right decision of what to do. The reason I ask around a 2nd opinion is that we were given 1 diagnosis for surgery by our vet and then a complete different review for the specialists.

    Thank you
    Michelle
