Would the experts on here consider purchasing a puppy whose mother had an elbow score of 1, the father is 0.

Me, no, never. I'd never accept elbows anything less than 0:0.

Same here. Although I am a bit more flexible over hip scores would only consider a puppy from parents both scoring 0:0 for elbows.

Whilst this isn't an absolute guarantee of breeding a puppy that will not have any issues (elbows are quite complex joints) elbows have a range of 0 - 3. A score of 1 indicates mild osteoarthritis.

With hip scores it is slightly different, there are more points to consider resulting in a range between 0 - 53 per hip, max total of 106. Ideally, you would want a hip score below the median for both parents and would study the lineage as well looking at other factors such as EBV (estimated breeding factors)

No, no and no. I would never consider a puppy from a parent with less than 0 elbows, or where there is no available score :(

Thanks for the reply’s but that’s not what I wanted to hear, although I think I knew what you would say. Oh well on with the search.

Best to walk away than risk heartbreak in the future. There will be a pup out there with your name on it with fully tested parents :)

I have been watching the Lab adverts on Champdogs ever since getting Ash over 12mths ago. To be honest it's quite alarming how many breeders think it's ok to use either a sire or dam with an elbow score of 1.

Keep searching, and researching, it took me 6 mths to find a litter I was happy with.

I've been monitoring as well for next pup and I'm astounded by the number of breeders who don't even have elbows tested. It would help of course if the KC changed the elbow status from advisory to mandatory same as hips any eyes.
