HI EVERYONE HOPE ALL OUR DEAR LABS ARE DOING FINE. I NEED ADVICE ON HOW MUCH EXERCISE MILO SHOULD BE GETTING AT 5 MONTHS OLD OR IF THEY CAN GET TOO MUCH. I WORK FROM 8 TILL 2 SO MORNINGS ARE A NO GO. THEN I PLAY FOR 10 MINUTES WITH HIM ON THE ROOF AND THEN A HALF HOUR WALK IN THE EVE . I DONT WANT TO OVER DO IT BUT IS IT ENOUGH OR IS IT EVER ENOUGH FOR A LABRADOR ?
Re: EXERCISE Hi Chrissie, The advice is 5 minutes of walking for every month of their life, twice a day. So at 5 months, it would be two walks of 25 minutes. That is excluding any time spent playing at home, in the garden etc. To me, it doesn't sound like enough right now, although others may disagree (I'm new to all this myself). Could you get up earlier and give him a walk before work?
Re: EXERCISE There is an article here: http://www.thelabradorsite.com/labrador-puppy-exercise-how-much-is-too-much/ Which says: The "rule" says that a puppy should have no more than 5 minutes "organised" exercise per day for every month of age. So that would be 25 minutes a day for a 5 month old pup. The article goes on to give an example about forms of exercise: Try to keep a balance. If you have been to visit a friend with your 5 month old pup, and he has played in the garden for half an hour with their dog, your dog does not need a walk as well. Walking is only one form of exercise and is no more valuable than games or training. It is the total exercise that counts. Hope helpful.
Re: EXERCISE At 5 months I walked Harley to the park or woods (10 - 15 mins), played with ball/in stream/sniffing for about 20 - 30 mins, then walked back home ((10-15 mins).
