I know these topics tend to pop up a lot, and believe me I've gone through plenty of threads without finding an answer.

I recently adopted an 8 month old rescue labrador (supposedly a lab and great pyrenees mix, but he seems to be all lab) and am struggling to figure out how much to feed him. He currently weighs 60 pounds (27kg) and he's being fed Kirkland salmon kibble : link.

The Kirkland website says to feed him 5 cups a day, which from looking at a lot of threads seems like too much. This is split as 2.5 cups in the morning (7am) and 2.5 cups in the evening (6pm).

Unlike a lot of labs though, Odin doesn't always devour his food. On some days, he'll go through all his kibble the moment his bowl is filled and will pester me throughout the day for more food. On other days, he'll eat a portion and come back for it sometime later in the day or even not finish his food for the day (he sleeps in his crate with the door open so he can leave and eat at any time but chooses not to).

Given that he seems to have his appetite under control, should I be feeding him more when he requests it? Is 5 cups a day too much already?

    Any help is appreciated!
