Harley is on Royal Canin Maxi Junior. Unfortunately in South Africa and particularly smaller cities and towns we don't have much choice regarding food. It was pretty much a choice between Hills and Royal Canin. Up to know we have been following the feeding chart, not precisely, but fairly accurately. I marked the feeding cup so when I scoop I know how much, sometimes it is a bit over the line. In the last two weeks Harley appears to be teething, especially in her molar area and has been unhappy eating her dry food. So I have been wetting it and letting it stand and soften, she is very happy eating her food like that. But in the same time I have noticed that she has had a bit of a growth spurt and looked a little lean. But to feed her up a little I had to feed her more than recommended. And I have. She still has a waist from top and side but she is looking healthier. We don't feed her any human food. She only gets her kibble and then some Hills tinned food to mix with her kibble for filling of Kongs. She has had a sensitive stomach when younger and I don't want to change anything suddenly. Should I rather change brands if she needs more than recommended or is it okay to just watch her and feed her more or less?
I truly wouldn't worry about it too much ,if the food suits her and she looks good , stick to it, especially as you have a limited choice . Sam probably has more than the recommended amount , but even though he weighs 40 kilos, he is lean with no excess fat .
Here are some photos. It is super hard to take photos of a pup that is just wanting to get close to you Her head is big at the moment, it was small for her body about 2 weeks ago And just this one because she is so super cute Such a sweet pup
Thanks Kate. I love the fact that she is a smaller size, large dogs intimidate me a bit, especially when they are boisterous.
She is SO pretty!! What a gorgeous girl!! And second what Kate says, go on body condition rather than labels
We find that the feeding recommendations are for considerably more food than our dogs need. Maybe the recommendations assume that the dog runs 12 hrs per day, and the desire to sell more food.
Thanks everyone. She is our absolute darling, she is just so enthusiastic and playful. You can't be angry with her for anything.
