Hi, all our dogs are fed on a commercial raw dog meat which has transformed their digestions, thank the lord! However, we give them raw bones from the butchers occasionally and today my 'other half' came back with some' past its best' oxtail, well the bones seem quite small in some of the pieces, and i wondered whether anyone knew if they are ok for feeding to a, Millie the year old lab, b, a jack russel and c, a staffie?! They are all standing around telling me that they are very happy to give it a go.... ;) Thanks

I would say yes, let them eat it :) Dogs have pretty impressive powers of digestion when it comes to raw bone, so even if they swallow bits whole it'll be fine.

Next time, see if the butcher will sell you oxtail that hadn't been cut up yet, or that is in longer pieces - that'd be great for their teeth.

Nice big bits also encourage them to chomp down and break up the bone a bit before swallowing :)

Thanks for the advice, will give them the biggest bits and keep an eye on them. Next time will ask butcher to keep the tail whole, or only cut it into three! Eugggh, I very rarely eat meat anymore...used to love eating oxtail, but not anymore..! :p
