So buddy is 11 weeks old now and although it has not quite been 2 weeks since his jabs we were keen to get him socialising, plus we know our friends dog is up to date so we thought we would let them meet up. Frankie is a very stocky french bulldog who is fully on heat (or whatever you say) so he basically did everything he could do get at buddy to hump him! So it was quite a bit for buddy to experience without it being too negative or aggressive, which I thought was quite good for him.

Buddy was a little scared at first but soon started giving as good as he got. I don’t entirely know the signs but it all looked pretty playful, no growling/snarling or excessive biting, just jumping and rolling around and some mouthing. We went on a short walk and they calmed down a bit.

Back in the garden a bit more playing and by the end they were licking each other. Does all this sound normal and positive?

We have kept buddy in touch with his siblings for a play 2-3 times per week, and he has said short hellos to other dogs but we were keen to have proper meetings with different dogs before the 13-14 week socialisation window ends.

    What does everyone think? Thanks

Sounds like he had a good play and enjoyed himself.

And it's lovely that he has been able to stay in touch with his siblings! I wish we could have done that.

Just a word of warning about meeting a dog that humps him! Humping is a learned behaviour, and quite antisocial so not really something you want your puppy to pick up. My dog got humping into his head as an acceptable way to greet dogs and it took ALOT of training out of him! Not say don't play with this dog, but try and avoid letting it hump him. (It's also obviously not good for him if he is only a puppy and this is a big dog)

Thank you, I shall bear that in mind and keep an eye on the humping, he’s been great with other people so far and the brief meetings with other dogs so fingers crossed!
