    Hi all,

My previous post was about my trainer believing that my puppy doesn't think I'm the boss (alpha male!) but I think I might have found the problem.

Bey has just come into season (today I think) she behaved herself in training (with pro trainer) on Saturday perfectly but was a little bugger to me. Then on Sunday/Monday someone replaced my puppy with the devil dog...... She's turned into the naughtiest, non obedient, running off, ignoring recall little monster I've ever known - is this normal for the first season?

She ignores thrown dummies, won't listen and won't make eye contact with me at all. She's driving me crazy.

Do some bitches go a little crazy when in season for the first time? Should I stop training/dummy work until it's all over?

    Thanks

    Dan

Hi Dan , most bitches actually become more clingy and " attached " when in season , but she may well be a little confused , hormones all over the place :)
I wouldnt stop any training at all, as long as its well away from any intact males of course :)
I dont actually go with the alpha male/female theory , yes of course you want your dog to do your bidding, what methods does your trainer use ? The one I used was more along the lines of showing me the right way to train my dog but it was me giving instructions under her guidance so that Sam didnt become too confused as to who to obey , I found that for us , this worked really well :)

It could be that your pups hormones are sending her a bit loopy, it's not unusual.

I'm another one that doesn't believe in alpha theory and I agree with what Kate has said - when you are training does your trainer do the training or get you to do it with supervision? If your trainer is the one actually working with your dog then of course your pup isn't going to listen to you as you don't have that sort of bond.
I would still continue the training whilst she's in season but just beware of any male dogs around and it's probably a idea to keep her in a conifer secure area or on a long line so she can't go searching out boyfriends!

    Thanks Katie/Penny,

His training technique is more show me what to do with Bey and then I do it after - which she then does in front of him but when we get home to our own training field she won't do it for me. It's very frustrating.

Definitely in season though but isn't clingy - more tired!

    Thanks

i think you do need a trainer who will show you what to do so you are the one working with the dog as the dog will be confused as to who to listen too maybe change trainer

    Hi all,

Bey is still on heat and has become clingy like you all advised - which is actually quite nice!

Her stools are very very loose, I've put her on chicken and brown rice for 4 days but she is still very loose, is this connected to her being in season and I should wait or should I pay a quick visit to the vets?

I will add she has a pronominal liking for fox poo and I wondered if this could be the cause? She also likes her own (although I've got pretty dab and picking it before she gets to it now!!!!). She was wormed 4 weeks ago.....

    Thanks.

    Dan
