Hi there, after browsing the forum for the past couple of weeks I thought it was about time to say hello! My partner and I will be first time labrador owners in 2 weeks (I've had crazy terriers before so will be interesting to see how they compare apart from the obvious size difference)!! We're getting a female black lab she'll be 8 weeks when we get her! We're sooooo excited and cannot wait to bring her home... But at the same time nervous as just want to do the very best for her. It's been information overload at the moment there appears to be so many 'right' ways of bringing up your pup. I've got a couple of books one being Pippa's 'Total Recall' which has been really insightful makes you see the training through the dogs eyes which will be useful!! Anyways we're off to visit the pup again this weekend so super excited about that ! I have a ton of questions so I'm sure I'll be posting loads in the coming weeks!!
Re: First timers!! Do buy The Happy Puppy Handbook by Pippa, it will answer all the questions you might ask and even ones you haven't even thought of.
Re: First timers!! Hi Annie, Welcome to the forum. We are also due to pick up a new pup in just under 3 weeks, she too will be a black girl so we will be sharing many of the same issues umm I mean milestones at the same time. I am a second time lab owner so have a little experience and I can confirm that labradors are as crazy as they come so may not be that different from the terriers you've had in the past. I second the recommendation of Pippa's Happy Puppy Handbook, I have loved reading it and believe it will help us prepare for our pup. Look forward to seeing some cute pics of your new baby!
Re: First timers!! Hi Annie! I will be getting my pup in about 4 weeks or so. 2 weeks sounds very soon so you must be getting revved up! I hope you enjoy the forum and I can also recommend Pippa's book : 'The Happy Puppy ...".
Re: First timers!! Hi and welcome to the forum Pippa's Happy Puppy book is essential, I wish it was published before I got my pup, but even so I have changed a lot since reading it Have you got any photos? What will her name be? Feel free to ask any questions, they all get answered (even silly ones I posted when Harley was little!)
Re: First timers!! I think I better invest in Pippa's other book too!! We are thinking of calling her 'Juno'! We are hoping to get lots of photos this weekend! We first saw her at 4 weeks, she's 6 weeks now so hopefully be bouncing around a bit more! I literally cannot wait feels like time is going so slowly though!
