My 12 year old is becoming less mobile by the day , he has many large fatty lumps all over his body which the vet has checked and says are normal for Labs. I noticed today that the joints around his feet are swollen with fluid (I imagine) even though he is lying down most of the time during this very hot weather. With much grumbling I stood him for a while in a bucket of cold water to alleviate the discomfort... but wonder if anyone has had any experience of this or any helpful suggestions to make him more comfortable. He's quite down in the dumps right now too as he sadly lost him lifetime partner suddenly last week.

Hi and welcome , first of all I am so very sorry for your loss , I know from experience how tough it is, both for owner and resident dog . I guess it is an age thing , I am almost 70 years old and my tolerance to heat is nowhere near what it was twenty years ago . Dogs, like humans , can get swollen ankles , and I guess the advice is the same , rest ! Maybe ask your Vet if maybe an anti inflammatory like Metacam might be beneficial to him ?
