    Hi friends,

I'm new to this site but looking for someplace to hear about others who have been through FCP surgery with their pups.

My lab/golden mix Bogey had FCP scope surgery (left elbow only) on March 23rd. It's been a frustrating recovery, we saw the most improvement in the first few weeks and at about 4 weeks he was looking good. We've had a hell of a time trying to keep him calm, he's only 1. He has had spurts of craziness on-leash when we've been outside so it's possible he was too active too soon. He will get zooms while we're outside and we have to literally pin him down to interrupt the crazy. At first we tried not to use the light sedative that the vet had given, but now we have no choice and have been using it daily. He's too wild! We're now 7 weeks post-op and his limp has not improved since 4 weeks. Initially our surgeon had said 6-8 week recovery. Now I'm wondering if something is wrong or if he just underestimated recovery and it's really more like 10 weeks. Bogey still limps a bit (stronger after rest) and also babies the limb with weight distribution. He doesn't seem in pain, just stiff.

Have you been through this surgery? How long was your recovery period? How has your dog been since then? Any advice on helping him through? We haven't been instructed to take him to rehab or physical therapy, so I'm really not sure if he's pacing well or not.

    Help!
