Hello guys, anyone could help with training the free stack to a puppy?
Hi sorry I don’t have an answer but someone will
What is a free stack never heard of this
The free stack is a position where the dog show his conformation, each breed have a different form of free stack, I don't know how to explain very well sorry.
This is the free stack of a labrador, this is the grandmother of Balu, my puppy.
Hi Sabri, your best bet is probably a puppy ringcraft class. Do you have anything like that in your region? Perhaps your breeder can recommend one?
Sorry now I see and thank you for taking the time to show and explain
No problem, I like to explain (or trying) because it's a thing that I love
In my region I don't have ringcraft classes. The breeder os helping me but I want some more advices
Thank you you are very kind.
I can see that
Hi @sabri.1996 , I don't know the term either, but based on the photo it appears to be stand for exam. You have to first teach stand with you standing next to the dog. You can use a lure from sit. Place left hand gently on left stifle or put your left hand over back and support the dog by the chest area so that your dog will not sit and move away from you. When dog starts to carry out the posture with minimal guidance and luring start introducing the cue. Then start on leaving your dog while in a stand. At the beginning stand directlynin front of the dog. Over repitions work on duration. Then work on distance.
Hi @sabri.1996 , checked with a friend who shows GSD. Everytime she comes to stand she guides the dog's back leg into position. Accordingly, place the tail in the desired position and yes + treat. Start to take your hand away and give high value treat if tail is in the correct position. Once learnt, then work on placement of the feet. So the method used is guidance with mark and treat.
Thanks, I'm already working with the breeder and the training is going very well, he almost make the position by himself. The tail in the labs is better when hes wagging, so is much easy because he is happy most of the time
Thanks for replying. Can you please tell me the training process you're using to teach free stack?
I will try to explain, the beginning was a little difficult, and even now he don't stack in the right position most of the times, I have to change his legs to the place and then clicking but he is a baby so it's normal.
1- I click and treat when he was in the stan position focused in my and in front of him, I made this until he understand the concept and do it without siting (even now sometimes he sits)
2- I put the treat in front of I'm to keep him busy with that and touch the legs to him gets used to me touching and grab them
3- I start to increase distance with the trea and the same time changing touching the legs
4- I start changing the legs and clicking and treat when the legs was in the right spot then I slowly increase some time in that position
5- I start increasing time in the position and add some distance
6- Whit the time he starts making the position for himself, Balu still don't make without some help, but it's much much better
This is the path I make for him, but could not be the more correct... or the most fast, but with the lack of information is the way I make.
This site helps a lot is not with labs but the concept is the same, only the position is different.
Hi @sabri.1996, I think I understand the process you are using. Thanks for the information. Good luck with your training.
I will try to make a short video with Balu to show you the process, I don't use clicker anymore because with the show leash and everithing isn't easy but I mark the comportement with a word "Muito bem" very well in portuguese
