My butcher adores Bailey, he sits in shop nicely whilst I'm being served!
And keeos giving me rib bones just for Bailey!
He's fed on kibble, I only use chicken fir obedience class, all other treats are kibble!
Do I let him have them?

Yes - raw rib bones are great for their teeth - I wish I had a source for them!

My butcher persuaded me not to get any rib bones for my dogs, said he had a dog and never gave him a bone.

You're lucky! They cost me a fortune! There is a whole section on here about raw feeding, including bones. All the info you need to decide. :)

I definitely would. Willow just had a nice chunk of raw rabbit, bones and all. Nom!

Wow i am shocked by this. I thought bones were a big no no! So even for a kibble fed dog I can give him a bone?

Just been to pets at home and asked advice on medium breed or large breed puppy food, mentioned he is runnier than would like and was advised eukanuba can be a bit 'strong' for labs. So have purchased some wainrights and am attempting to wean onto that. Hope I am doing the tight thing.

Yep my Hattie & Charlie get recreational bones (not hard ones though, e.g marrow bones) only totally consumable ones to help with teeth cleaning and they love them :)

We get lamb bones from the butcher. The ribs are best... just enough nice meat left on them to delight him, and they can be chomped up and chewed with just the right amount of effort. He gets the bones straight from the freezer - they're like an ice-lolly for him! He gets through one in 5-10 minutes and it is the highlight of his day. It keeps his teeth lovely and white too...

The only thing they say to avoid is weight-bearing bones of mammals (eg leg bones), because they can be too hard for the teeth. (Chicken is fine because bird bones are lightweight.) Having said that, we've given Pongo lamb leg bones with no bad effects and he adores them. But he thinks that ribs are the jackpot.

My butcher always give me a bag of bones free every fortnight when I go there :) Harley is mainly kibble fed, but we are looking into raw. In the meantime, she loves her odd bones here and there :)

Yes raw bones are great. Cooked bones are brittle so can splinter so no to cooked, yes to raw.

Rib Bones are perfect, just dont give him any wieght bearing bones from a large animal such as a cow as they are just too tough.
By wieght bearing we mean the leg bones & to a lesser extent hip & shoulder bones.

    It's a yay yay yay
Cut into 3 3 portions, gave one....... a little worried first time so removed after 20 minutes! (No problems)
Gave again later that evening(same one) ooh quiet time by all! Slightly softer poo in the morning but back to normal in the afternoon!
    Yay to the bones!
