So Ned is 9 months old and outgrown his harness so I need to get another one. His lead walking has deteriorated and he’s about 30kg now so he can easily pull me over when he lunges so I was thinking of trying a front fastening one to help me stay upright while we continue training attempts. Any recommendations?
Perfect Fit. It's a super harness - front and back fastening, comes in 3 separate parts for getting the perfect fit.
I use a double attactment lead (Halti) with a Ruffwear harness...but I have found for me that having one attached to the back and the other clipped around my waist has helped, in regard to helping with safety in pulling, as you then have body weight.. I am also training her, but it's a helpful thing (not perfect but better) and helped relax me and then Im in a better and happier state of mind for me and to train...
I've got a perfect fit with a front and back fastening. I mostly just use the back ring but I do use the front in new situations or ones were Rory might kind it pull. It's been a good safe comfortable harness. It's nice and soft and very washable.
@edzbird and @SwampDonkey - the perfect fit harness looks heavy duty. Is it heavy? I have a flimsy harness for Snowie. He can’t run around in it - it’s too loose fitting. I only put it on for leash walking. But I think it might be time for a new harness. But wondering how comfy the perfect fit is for leaving on while we’re walking? How does it compare to the Julius?
I use the perfect fit for Wispa and leave it on when she’s off lead. She’s very happy with it and there have been no problems with rubbing. It’s also easy to grab it if necessary. It washes well when it gets muddy!
I used to use a Perfect Fit when Ripple was smaller, now I use a Julius K9 with only a back fastening. I would say the Julius is heavier and a bit more cumbersome, but it suits me as I only use it when Ripple is on the long line.
I got the 40mm width for Scooby, who happily ran around off-lead in it and swam in the sea in it - but it is quite heavy. It was a bit to chunky for Coco, if I were to buy another one for him I'd get the 20mm width - that'd be a lot lighter. Scooby was a big Labrador, Coco is much more narrow. Coco has a different harness with no front attachment.
there are two sizes ones the 20.0 and 40.0 I mostly use the 20.0. It's light weight very comfortable does not and has not rubbed Rory .I walk to the park every day it's about a mile through streets and busy roads and I feel confident that I can have total control in trying situations without hurting him. I take it off when we get to the park and it it so lightweight it fits in a pocket or clips to my belt and is comfortable for me to carry.if there's a lot of children people about I leave it on so I can clip him on his lead quickly and safely. I've had them for About 4 years and they have lasted well and washed beautifully. They break into 3 pieces so can be swapped if worn and altered to fit well.rory finds it very comfortable and wears it happily. I find the Julius harness very heavy compared to the perfect fit. It's (Julius)a lot bulkier and would find it difficult to carry when I'm in rough country and take off his harness. The fabric of the perfect fit is very comfy soft and flexible the Julius is a lot more rigid. The perfect fit went through the really muddy wet winter we had here very well washed most days and is in good order. I like them and prefer them to the Julius, I've tried both. I do a lot of walking so wanted the safest most comfortable lightweight harness i could find I've been very pleased with it.
Agree, I find the 40mm a bit bulky for Casper. I only use it areas where I may need to use both the front and back attachments together. Tbh though, if I feel that is going to be the case, we go somewhere else. Perfect are nice harnesses, and it has not rubbed one bit. Casper though didn't really take to it.
Thanks for the responses. I’ve just been looking at his old one and turns out it had a front attachment on it and I’ve never noticed how very useless of me!
