So Rosie has started moulting this week.....OMG, my wooden floors look like they've been replaced by a yellow shag pile!! Unbelievable amounts of hair. Hoovering is ineffective as its back within half an hour!

So looking at amazon for best tool to help situation - there's the furminator and a similar, but cheaper, tool the mikkimoult moult.

Anyone any experience of these tools? Advice for grooming?

    Thank you :)

We have a furminator tool, i don't rate it that much, it is good but not that good, there are better tools out there like the mikki undercoat rake, that for barley is the best, i get mountains of hair out of him using that. Also another disappointing thing about the furminator is that you can not get replacement blades, as our one has a couple of broken teeth on it and they are very sharp so we can not use it on him anymore. in my opinion the mikki undercoat rake is much better as it only gets the undercoat out not the top layer of fur like the furminator did, and they are much cheaper than a furminator, i think that they are over priced for what they are

We use a furminator. But they need to be used carefully. Couple of strokes, then keep checking the area, it's easy to get carried away with them. I agree with Puppypal that they're over priced. Excellent marketing, but only good product.

Must say we've not used it on our lab x, only on the Bernese.

Thanks, I think I'll go for the mikki then. Need to do something as the brush I have isn't doing much at all!

Here you go Jennyann...made me think of you!

I just use a mitt and go once over Dexter every day to remove loose hair ....not much comes away considering we live in such a hot climate.....but I do have to Hoover every day or the drifts become apparent in the house.....in fact even with that by evening time when the house is settling down...a covering starts to appear on the coffee table and sofa.....nice when the snacks are out and we've got visitors round ;D

Dexter, that made me laugh...and so true! I knew dogs shed but this is ridiculous! I have dark wood floors so the yellow hair drifts stand out - they're back even 30-60 mins after a Hoover.

Does this mean autumn is on its way? How rude...!

You get no sympathy from this corner. Here's the result of Alfies last 'furminator' session..The wild birds round here love our garden!

Good grief TM , thats a whole new dog ;D ;D
I use a mitt on Sam, but dont groom him that often as he charges around in the undergrowth which tends to rid the loose hair, doesnt stop the odd one appearing in sandwiches though ;)

Crickey, is there really THAT much loose hair on them or was he bald when you'd finished!

That's about a half hour session, and he's still thick and well covered aferwards. It's the greyish fluffy undercoat mostly. We only do shorter grooming sessions on him nowadays though, just make sure his feet/pads are fine, and no knots anywhere. Then he's shattered and lies back down!

I use a Furminator on Hattie and I get loads of hair out of her coat to keep it matt free, but when she goes to the groomer she clips off about the same as Alfie, it's pretty amazing the amount of fur she has. Helen x

Oh my! Thats a lot of hair!

Lilly is quite fine haired. I am a fan of the zoom-groom or similar rubber mitt but not regularly, only if visible loose hair.
