I use Advantix on my two, which I'm happy with, but it's SO expensive here!! I nearly had a heart attack when I saw how much cheaper it is on vetuk.co.uk (less than half the price ). I'm going to ask my vet if he can give me a prescription for it. They don't normally do prescriptions here, you just get the meds from the vet. But, if he can, there's still a chance that the website won't accept it because it's from abroad. So, does anyone know if I could go and see a vet when I'm in the UK and get a prescription from them, without being registered with the surgery?
Re: Getting a prescription for Advantix from a UK vet? Fiona I used to do exactly this.....we don't get prescriptions here but my vet used to write me a letter and stamp it with the clinic details.Initially I rang about 6,including my parents vet who has known the family for 30 years and they weren't able to do it without seeing the dogs......( you have the advantage here of having your 2 with you in May) eventually the vet at Pets At Home filled the prescription for me it was still expensive though...( I'll look out the invoice to check but I'm sure I paid around £50 for 6 months) so I guess you'd need to weigh up the comparison costs of registering and paying for a consultation to get it in the UK.Last time Advantix wasn't available from PAH so I couldn't get it x
Re: Getting a prescription for Advantix from a UK vet? Hmm, thanks Angela. In that case, it's probably worth me getting it from the French zooplus. It doesn't seem to require a 'script and costs €29.90 for six pipettes - I paid €48 for four!! I can have it delivered to the friends we're staying with on the way back from the UK

The home of bureaucracy ;D
Re: Getting a prescription for Advantix from a UK vet? Another option might be a web site called "1800petmeds.com". I've gotten prescription drugs from them for several years with no problem, and they've been much less expensive. You send them a prescription or they'll call your vet, then they send you the meds. Where do you live? They might not ship overseas...
Re: Getting a prescription for Advantix from a UK vet? I live in Andorra (aka the Rs-end-of-nowhere ) and find shipping things to here very, very difficult.
Re: Getting a prescription for Advantix from a UK vet? I'm intrigued by Zooplus, the UK site doesn't have Advantix listed anywhere and het you can buy it on the French site. Strange! I've gone to order on the French site but ended on the uk site due to problems with the French payment systems, or lack of......
Re: Getting a prescription for Advantix from a UK vet? I've ordered from the French and Spanish sites in the past. They're handy because, as much as they don't deliver into Andorra, I can have things delivered to post offices just across the border(s), which are only about ninety minutes away, unless it's snowy or holiday time, to go and pick things up. When I switch to Burns when the pups go onto adult food, I'll be getting it from them every few months
