After having a down week or so barley is starting on the up again.

Hips have got noticeably worse so x-rays should be booked in for next week if all goes to plan. When trotting you can tell they are bad, not due to limping but in where he places his feet, his right back hind (from looking at his backside right) tracks inwards, it lands inbetween where his front feet land, left hind lands in a straight line from front leg. He is still on restricted walks, if we stop walking then he gets very bored and will pester like hell to go out, he has soooooo much energy these days it is like he is making up for his lazy puppy days.He just gets once round the park in the evening when we are least likely to meet any other dogs, thats all he can handle, and often means that i have to drag him out of the park as he does not want to leave, poor lad, but he starts to struggle if we any more than that. he still insists on running the last 50m back home (old habit, proving very hard to break) which he gets very disappointed if he does not get to run home but its a no for the moment. And this is all still without him being on painkillers, if he was on painkillers he would be doing harm to himself as he would feel fine and want to run around and play with puzzle, which thankfully at the moment they have stopped doing for the time being.

He hips click when he has a scratch, and i mean you can here it click, not just a little click. Both hips do it, and sometimes they click when he stretches, this also happens occasionally when he does a front stretch but not that often.

Good news is that for the moment being he has been weaned off of piriton ;D
We slowly over a period of a month have reduced the amount he has been having per week and now is on the 5th week and has none. Only doing this because i don't want him on it all the time incase he builds up immunity to it and needs higher doses to get the same effect, and after having had him on 6 a day last summer when he got really itchy this is a great achievement for him. No itching or paw chewing since reducing his dosage so he does not need it at the moment, but can't cross fingers to say that he won't need it for the peak of summer.

Other health things is that he has currently got conjunctivitis which is a bit annoying for him having gunky eyes but the eye drops are helping, even though he hates them , but then so does puzzle as they both have got it.

And thats it for the barley update

    A mixed bag, poor boy.
    Lilly's hips are dreadfully clicky.
She hasn't limped for months and months though.
I hope the x-rays help you plan what is going to be best for Barley.
I bet he has more energy off the piriton too!
    xx

I missed this Annabelle - the forum is so busy these days!

Let us know how the x-rays go. I think you do right to manage his exercise.
