Have been very hit and miss on here lately, but have been popping in as much as I can. Been a busy couple weeks - my daughter's grad at the end of June and then visitors from Wales which we took to the mountains and then brought back here for visits, etc. Now I am free of visitors and getting caught up on all the stuff neglected over the last little while! We have had glorious weather since the end of June - hot and sunny every day, highs between 25-30 C each day. Feels so good after our looonngg winter, I can't complain! I have been pleased as punch with the pooch this summer so far. He was lovely with our visitors (aside from a small incident of cashew pillaging - they left the bag in their suitcase on the floor and door to room left open :), they thought he was a wonderful dog. Not much jumping up on them, either ! Have been for a few off-lead walks....he has been a star! The combination of whistle, ball, and treat-throwing has kept him pretty close for the most part. Just got back from a walk, one in which I forgot my whistle (oops) but he was great.....except for the slight bobble when a squirrel ran across the path in front of him and there was much crashing around in the bush for a few moments before he reappeared. He did become deaf to my other whistle (by mouth) which I also use on walks, no surprise there. It's been hot, as I said, so he's been spending a lot of time sleeping, which is why I went out this AM to give him more of a exercise walk than he has been getting. He is snoozing happily now. Anyway, all to say that I am very happy with my dog, he is really doing very well in all the areas that I was worried about a few months ago as I thought about summer and visitors and off-lead, etc!!
Re: Glorious summer Wow, summer at last I'm not surprised you are loving it So glad Simba is doing well off lead enjoy the warm weather......it's been 21-23 degrees here most days and am glad we have access to rivers as Harley gets too hot
Re: Glorious summer Yes, it's a challenge to find close opportunities for water immersion here. The closest is about 10 minutes away, but it's a very difficult drive down a steep, partially washed out road, hard in a minivan. I like to have hubby along as driver for that one, the drive up is even worse as the steepest bit is also the most washed out bit so it's hard to get up any kind of speed to make the grade. I envy all of you with your easy and close access to rives, canals, lakes or beaches!
Re: Glorious summer Ah, Lisa, I'm so pleased for you! All that steady work over the long winter and look at the results. You've built a fantastic relationship with Simba!
Re: Glorious summer Really sounds like things have paid off Lisa. Simba sounds like he has been a star. Well done both of you!
Re: Glorious summer Wow you get such extremes of temperature Lisa. It sounds like Simba is doing you proud. You must be so pleased with him. ;D As for the cashew pillaging surely it was practically an invitation and the squirrel was asking for it.

[/quote] Yes, it is basically 50C hotter here than it was 5 months ago! I agree about the squirrel and the cashews, I mean, what's a Labrador to do??
Re: Glorious summer Thats brilliant, well done Lisa Glad you are having great weather, long may it last!
Re: Glorious summer Well done Lisa. Its a lovely feeling when things go well (and all the better for knowing that its your hard work that made it possible). 8)
Re: Glorious summer You've done an exemplary job, Lisa. Simba is by nature a lovely boy, but all credit goes to you for showing him a better way to behave.
Re: Glorious summer Aww, thanks, everyone. Appreciate your kind words, but I know I could be doing more with the boy. Lots of things to improve on, to be sure, but really am pleased at how far we've come!
