I know this topic came up in a thread a few days ago and the suggestion was to ask the dog to 'go sniff' and then reward for leaving the place of interest. We tried it for the first time yesterday when we took Harls to the beach and there were such yummy smells everywhere. It worked really well! Harley thought it was awesome that we encouraged her to go smell something and after the first 3 or 4 sniff stops she was very good about coming away when we asked her. So I can highly recommend it!
