My yellow lab Haley gained about 5 lbs. last year. She has maintained 80 lbs for 8 months now but would like to get her back to at least 75 lbs. My vet and other have said to supplement her diet with green beans. She gets plenty of exercise, 3 walks a day and then some swimming or playing with other dogs. She's currently eating about 1 cup of dry food twice a day, 26% protein/12% fat. She was on a 30/20 diet. I have supplemented her food with about 4 spoonfuls of low sodium green beans. she gets that with each of her meals. Any recommendations on either more beans, less kibble?

That's a new one to me! I have had a couple of friends whose vets have advised they give carrots as treats whilst helping their dogs to lose weight, but I've not heard of green beans being used before.

Personally I prefer to maintain a good weight by reducing their normal food intake rather than using extras, but how have you been finding supplementing with green beans so far and do you feel like it's helping?

Green beans have fewer calories than carrots. She's been on green beans for about 8 months give or take and maintaining weight but I'd like to get her back to 75 lbs.

What does her excerise routine look like ? My lab typically gains a bit in Winter as we can't walk as much, but it drops off come Spring when we get light nights and more opportunities for longer excerise. Green beans are just a low calorie filler, you are just as well reducing her normal kibble, they get used to less after a while.
