I noticed a real difference in Charlie today.

We were walking in a busy part of the Common (busy with other dogs) and he was just more consistent than usual.

Just small things but throughout the whole walk he was a little bit better - his sit when getting out of the car was solid even though there were 2 black labs behind him, he walked to heel around several groups of dogs (I can tell when he is going to break, so usually release him, but today didn't need to), he was interrupted while getting his ball, but ignored the other dog. He didn't break out of his sit/wait even when other dogs came running over to us and he even didn't twitch when a yellow lab was right behind us with the owner throwing balls from a tennis ball launcher.

Was very pleased. Was thinking maybe he is beginning to learn to concentrate...just a bit...

And you say he is a hooligan!!!! ;D ;D ;D He sounds perfect to me, wish my nearly 9 year old was as good.

That really is showing quite a good deal of maturity - ignoring the balls from the tennis ball launcher right behind him. Bet you never thought you'd be writing that! Good boy Charlie. 8)

No, I didn't think we'd ever get over tennis ball launchers. :) We seem to have defeated them though. Got to crack footballs still...

Ha! This boy will still be nicking hats on the beach when he's ten, I reckon. But still, I'll be glad to get to the point where I don't have to put on sunglasses and a baseball cap everytime I slink underneath the golf course club window...for fear of being recognised as the owner of the golf ball bandit....

Oh yes. After all, I've just booked to spend 3 days in a hotel at clicker expo, training in front of an audience of...what...a hundred plus people taking notes? And we think Charlie's hooligan days are coming to an end? Oh...I very much doubt it. ;D ;D ;D

It feels like it's never going to happen but they do grow up and become calmer. Your right though a little bit of the hooligan puppy stays with them. At 15 murphy could still get upto mischief. ;). Well done Charlie especially with the ball launcher. ;D

It seems like it's something that happens overnight doesn't it? You just all of a sudden wake up and notice that they are calmer, more responsive, less of a hooligan etc. Definitley happened with Penny, but she still has hooligan moments so I bet Charlie's aren't too far away!!

It worked with my son... Only took until he was 25 years old though, so if that pattern of young male behaviour is anything to go by, Charlie may yet have a little while to go before he grows up totally! ;)
