    Well, I never expected this!!

When we were deciding on a Pup it was between a GSD, a Golden Retriever and a Labrador. We'd already decided we wanted a big dog, our first ever big one.

Gavin and Callum were Cavaliers and Boogie was a Collie/Manchester Terrier cross. So lots of grooming and hair vacuuming. When I was a girl we had an Irish Water Spaniel (ish) dog, a couple of Border Collies and a Jack Russell - I don't remember the grooming etc, but it must have happened, Mum kept a VERY tidy house :)

Sooooooo - we thought Lab = short hair = much less grooming and vacuuming.

    How wrong!!.

I have never vacuumed or groomed as much in my entire life!!

(She's worth it of course, we adore her utterly and besottedly !)

Here she was as a chunky pup of 11 weeks :)

What a gorgeous photo, just divine :) :)
Having had both yellow and now a black Lab , I`m sure that black is worse, or maybe you just notice it more ?
I cant understand how black dog hairs get into the bathroom , Sam never goes in there , even known to find the odd one in a sandwich ::) ::)

You would have found it much, much worse if you had decided on Golden Retriever! I used to work for a vet and one day a couple of Golden Retrievers came in for a consultation and lay on the floor near the washbasin; when they left there was a thick carpet of hair where they had been, I made a mental note then never to have a GR :)

I have two Labs, no 1 hardly moults at all, so it has been a culture shock that no 2 does!

Lovely dog! And yes hair everywhere here too. Drifts of it at times. There is always a Labrador hair in or on whatever I'm doing, eating or watching. They are compulsory. ;D

And me. I can groom Meg and get brushfuls of hair out. Reckon I could do it 24 hours a day and still keep getting hair. Mind you it's normally only 2 or 3 times a year. Gorgeous pup you've got. Really lovely face.

I could make several puppies out of the hair I've hoovered up since we got Riley. It has meant that I've had to mend my slovenly ways (a bit anyway) otherwise my whole house would be black and hairy

It's odd - I don't find the moulting so bad. Charlie does shed hair, but it seems to be in a very short, intense burst. No long, 2 or 3 weeks and it's over. And speeded up really quick with grooming. Although, the best thing ever is the watertreadmill and dryers - seems to wash and blast it all out! ;D ;D ;D

Thankfully, I can see his summer coat is growing in at speed - covering up his shaved leg! Hurrah for changing coats! ;D ;D ;D

I wonder if gooming helps to keep it down and off the floors etc. I do groom Hattie & Charlie once a week as they enjoy it :D

Glad Charlie's lovely coat is growing back, bless him :D

    Gorgeous photo :)

Harley has just started moulting again too, but not too bad as she is red fox and doesn't seen to show unless we wear black ;)

    Beautiful photo.

Kate you are so right about dog hairs in the bathroom ! ;D

Having only had black labs I learnt a long time ago to stick to relatively dark colours for every day wear. ::)

Thankfully my two aren't too bad. Maybe because they sleep outside they don't need to molt as much. They seem to do a big molt over a couple of weeks right about now. Got my furminator out last week. Then I give them a brush every one or two weeks through the summer.

I don't need to groom at all during winter I might give them a brush now and then but very little comes off.

Obi sheds a lot but not as much as our previous dog Nicolae who used to shed enough for a whole Husky team.

Labs have shortish hair but it's the undercoat underneath that's the killer. I would say they're a pretty high shedding breed.

The trick is to get a dog that matches your flooring.

Molly is a Golden Girl and her hair matches the laminate flooring in our kitchen, hallway etc.

Not such good news on the deep red carpet in the dining room though ;D

I didn't choose a Golden Girl to match the floor, but it is a nice bonus.

Exactly. That is why I have two brown dogs to match my floorboards. :) The red hair is another matter of course….

I think the trick is also to get matching dogs. I found that having a black and a chocolate dog, the hairs didnt show up so much on my clothes, but the clouds of dark dog hair were much in evidence on the light wooden floors… Now having a yellow lab, her hair is pretty much invisible on the floor, but oh my goodness my clothes… I have had to ditch all my black and dark stuff and buy a whole new wardrobe based on natural 'earth' colours…

Guess the next dog will have to be yellow, too, or else the hairs will show up on the clothes AND on the floor.

Definitely just get one colour of dog and stick to that. We got new bathroom tiles when we had a black dog. The old tiles were white which drove me insane. So we got black tiles. But now we have a yellow dog so are back to square one. ::)
