This is our first post to the server but we are not new by any means! I have been following the threads here for months and have found so much useful information! Max is my 7 month lab rescue mix although I am not entirely sure the mix. We were told some type of hound., but not quite sure what. He has been quite the handful, but is SO incredibly smart and uses it to his advantage I think!! It's so nice to finally I introduce ourselves!
Hello and welcome from me and Nelly ! Glad that you have introduced yourself and Max too , hope you enjoy the forum x
Thank you! I have found this site very helpful for Max's puppy crazies and biting especially although we have not yet made it through them but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! We are working so hard to keep him mentally stimulated with learning new tricks and agility practice! We even made a mini agility course in our basement with small jumps, a balancing beam, and other fun things! He absolutely THRIVES with this. Our last dog (black lab of ten years) passed away February 2017 and was much more mellow (besides the chewing) as a puppy so our hyper, energetic little little guy has been quite the handful!
Hello from another Maxx!! There is a funny story about why we have two XX at the end. My hubby bought a pack of underwear from Target and they had the word MAXX all around the waistband! We had already decided on Max as a name but decided this was a sign that we had to spell it with two XX Our Maxx is 17 weeks old today and the crazies and biting definitely abating...slowly....now to work out how to stop him stealing stuff and running off Keep us posted on Max's progress
I hope Max's with two x's is getting along well!! I love how he got his name! We took Max to the beach today and met up with two older labs which he did great with! His recall is not the best in exciting places but he stuck nearby with the other two dogs! We learned if we run in the opposite direction he will come to us! We have been a little weary meeting new dogs as he had a couple off experiences when he was younger but he did great. He greeted three other new large breed dogs really good as well! It's a slow going process but he has been making great progress!
Hi! Thanks for your reply! The list of Max's crazy antics is never ending. When he was about 5 months old we had to raise the puppy gate at the end of our long hallway that blocks off our back bathroom and catfood/litter tray because he learned he could jump it. We left just enough room underneath so that he couldnt crawl under, or so we thought. He learned that if he ran full force down the hallway he could just barely slide underneath the gate paws and head first on his belly.
Welcome from me and Xena in Wellington, NZ. Max sounds too clever for his own good - imagine realising that he can slide under the gate like Tom Cruise in Risky Business lol.
