I start training with my 3 month old puppy next month. For the training I need a harness, is there anything specific I should be looking for when purchasing one please? Will I also need a longline lead for training?

Hi @Clare Sexton buy one that has a ring at the front as well as the rear for attaching the lead. If it chanes your dog's gait don't buy it. See whether the store will let you try before buying.

You can buy a long line to use for recall even if you don't use it in class. Some trainers here advocate a 10 metre one made from biothane. The material is long lasting but relatively more expensive for the initial outlay.

Are you in the UK or US, Clare? I would recommend a Perfect Fit harness and a 10m biothane long-line for training outdoors and practising recalls.

Perfect Fits are available from Clear Run in the US or Dog Games in the UK.
