Harry was sitting on my lap last night, and I was stroking with his paws and felt a lump. On closer examination theres a swelling at the top of his toe nail, the cuticle area (?). It's not red or anything, not like an extra lump, but a swelling under his own skin. Hope that makes sense.

With it being summer, I'm thinking it's probably a grass seed (we have a different name for them in this house though - can't type it here!), that's gotten up the cuticle and is causing the inflamation. What ever it's likely to be, we'll find out tonight at the vets.

He's absolutely fine, eating, pooping, running, terrorising his little sis'. Also when they're playing he's not shielding it from Charlie in any way. So at least it seems it's not causing him any pain. Which is good.

They're such a worry though aren't they. Naturally he benefitted greatly from sleeping on the bed with his mum last night! Bless him.

Will let you know how he gets on tonight, and what the vet says. Cross your fingers and paws everyone please, for a simple, straight forward outcome. x

Re: Harry off to vets Update

Well, just back from the vets a little while ago. Harry is going to have a little op on Friday to take off the lump. Vet thinks it could be hyper keratosis, basically like a wart. Or histiocytoma, which is a benign skin tumor quite common in younger dogs. So to save it getting knocked, or infected it's better to get it off. It's good knowing what it's likely to be, but worrying that he's having an operation for it. Vet will know better when she can see it properly. Although Harry was good as gold, bless him, holding his paw up for her! It's bigger than I thought goes further back into the fur. I was scared to look properly to be honest. So he'll be spoilt rotten until Friday, then spoilt crazy rotten there after.

Thanks for all your good wishes, it means a lot. I've told him he's a very loved pooch. Worldwide. :)

Poor Harry. Better off if the vet boss says so. :(
Lilly aslo has a possible histiocytoma - vet not sure at the moment - we are keeping an eye on it. :(
If it grows then she is to have it removed too.
Lots of spoiling of dogs on Friday necessary.
    xx

Arrghh... tell the vet that super star Harry's paw is widely admired and he had better not leave a scar on Harry!

Good for you for being so observant and spotting it. Paws crossed all goes well....big Licks sent from Charlie...

Everyone knows that a scar can be kinda sexy ;) I'm sure it'll only enhance Harry's considerable appeal.

Good to know that you have an answer and that it is being dealt with quickly. It's always such a worry when our dogs need medical attention... Make sure you spoil yourself as well as the lovely Harry :)

Ah bless :). Harry's a happy chap as usual today. I'm not sleeping but once it's sorted I'll be fine! They're worth it.

We were told of that option too, but vet recommended the op for Harry. The way Charlie and Harry carry on together, I'm just as pleased, in case it got knocked or something. If you can be pleased about something like this, that is.
