    Hi Everyone,

I know Castration is an ongoing debate that everyone has an opinion on, but I wanted to see if anyone has ever done Chemical Castration, (Suprelorin Implant).

This is something a few people and 2 local trainers have recommended to us for Ozzie, Our nearly 1 year old Chocolate Male Labrador, he is Very Excited/Overpowering/Jumpy/Nervous with other dogs, and they feel that this is due to him having too much Testosterone and that its a bit of a mixture with his nervousness too, (I probably aren't explaining this very well) so has suggested that the chemical one may help us figure out if it helps?

As we are not overly keen on putting him through castration on the off chance it may help, as it may also make him worse, with him being slightly nervous too, so think maybe a 6month Chemical Castration may help us figure out what to do.

We have tried various different things and have had various different bits of advice but we can not seem to make any progress.

Any comments are welcome, but if anyone has tried this I would be interested to hear your story?

    Katie, Nick and Ozzie :)

I have no experience of the drug, but Kate's experience is very interesting. Please, if you try it, let us know how you get on.

I do though, have an intact chocolate Labrador - at a year, he held the world record for being very excited, overpowering and jumpy. It improved with training and a bit of maturity.

He also got a little nervous around castrated dogs, as they would react quite badly to him - we got over that though, by making sure he didn't have any more bad experiences, and he is confident again now. I think the nervous thing is difficult to unpick in particular though. Is a nervous dog better off being castrated so he is more like most of the dogs he will meet? Or even worse off because Testosterone gives them some confidence? It's a very worthwhile thing to test before you decide if you can, for sure.
