OK, a bit of Bank Holiday fun, add your comments as to what having a dog means to you. Try to keep them concise, preferably just one liners like:

    * No more weekend or Bank Holiday lie-ins

    * Obsession with the firmness of poo

    * Enjoying a good face-lick despite knowing where else has recently been licked

...someone is always pleased to see me when I get home.

Even if I've had a row with my business partner, OH is sulking because I forgot to switch the dishwasher on (again) and things are icy with my family because of my inability to remember anyone's birthday....Charlie loves me.

(Just realised that all makes me sound like a horrible person! I'm not, really ;D ;D ;D ).

    * always makes me smile after a bad day ;)

There are lots more, but these are the first ones that come to mind......look forward to seeing others replies :D

I cannot think of one good practical reason for having a dog.

I always say you either 'get' dogs or you don't.

Confession. I managed to convince OH that one of the best reasons for having another dog was "Security". And then we got a Labrador

the development of a NASA like radar system in brain to enable detection of wildlife before brodick does and puppies before cuillin does; never getting the bed to myself; always having running training buddies despite howling wind and rain; an ability to live quite happily in a mud smeared house; and of couse getting marvelous labrador cuddles everyday...

Developing the ability to recognise different animal poo by smell.

Never having to worry about oversleeping.

Getting a fabulous welcome home after a lousy day.

Great weekend walks with a companion who doesn't want to talk all the time.

Heres a few things from my weekend, I will try and be concise watching Oatsy gently lick a five year old who was patting him,
being able to communicate with him, you dont get that with a cat, I said wheres your ball Otis, and he ran to it. The overwhelming love you feel for them. His sense of fun, he loves to tease and play. How I found my sense of humour and laughed after he had eaten the rhubarb and apple crumble. His lovely soft furry cuddly body. His sheer doggyness, ear flapping, drooling, barking in his sleep, washing himself, the different signs shown by his tail, up for confidence and poos, and of course wagging. His first little grin when he showed his front teeth. The way he curls up to sleep, and snuggles upto me, or lies on my feet keeping them warm. When he joins me in the room, so he can be near me. When he turns over for a belly rub. He is a passive dog, the way he cant be botherd to chase after a ball if a faster dog goes for it. Okay I will stop now, I could go on and on ! Sorry I broke the rule about being concise ! xx

Lots and lots of love, cuddles, fun, if I go out knowing she'll be here greeting me like mad when I get back. Finding different food that she'll eat, feeling elated when she does. Responsibility, making sure she's as healthy as she can be. OOh you could go on and on couldn't you?
