Hi I think my nearly five month old pup has hay fever. She was fine yesterday but it was a wet day but now hot and sunny and she now has runny nose and pink ears. Advice given to family member by vet, piriton tablet. Just wondered what people use for their pups as it seems the vets here don't prescribe a dog version antihistamine

Hi Wenzies. Allergies are common in labs, just like people so it may be that she has got allergies. However, they are usually around the six months age before they start, especially for pollen-based allergies although you will sometimes see them in younger pups. Piriton is pretty safe in dogs (but not necessarily in cats) and at least in the UK there are no licensed antihistamines for dogs so you always have to pick human drugs. Hope she gets better soon.

Hi Wenzies. Piriton is a prescription drug so unless you have a supply they maybe difficult to come by. British National Formulary (BNF) advises that the dose for children 1-2 years is 1mg twice daily.

Hi Wenzies, and welcome to the forum.
Do check with your vet about the Piriton to make sure you get the right dose, after of course, getting a proper diagnosis.
Once you know exactly what you need to give then maybe look at other supply options.
"Piriton! is a brand name, you would be cheaper buying it as the generic/unbranded Chlorpheniramine.
But PLEASE PLEASE check the correct dose for your dog's age and weight first.
