I've had a week off work, and we've been doing a bit of house renovating and decorating. Today OH was painting the kitchen, so I took Poppy out in the car to a beautiful walk near us on farmland. Unfortunately the farmer was muck spreading, and while I wasn't paying attention Pops had a lovely roll in the disgusting watered down effluent that they were spreading over the fields. It stank to high heaven - really gross, the kind of stench that hits the back of your throat and makes you retch... I found a stream and threw sticks for her to fetch, to clean her off. I was NOT happy. Just then OH called - he was running out of paint, could I drive to the DIY store and pick some up? I explained that HIS dog ( ) had rolled in liquid poo and stank so badly I couldn't face a car journey of any length with her. He got all snitty with me, and said that while he was spending the afternoon doing painting work, I was out having fun with the dog... In the end I did drive to the DIY store, got the blooming paint, and drove home with the windows open, taking great gulps of air out of the window. Poppy has been in the bath and had a close encounter with baby shampoo, but to be honest she still stinks, and my car is unspeakable! The kitchen looks beautiful though ;D Time for a walk down to our local for a steak and a big glass of red wine for us both. The smelly one can come too, I suppose. If she's very good a piece of steak fat may come her way. It usually does... ;D
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down Pongo's finest hour was when we took him on a new walk near us and discovered the farmer's slurry pit. Or rather Pongo discovered it. With great delight and a swan dive into the middle - he was up to his ears. We washed him for three hours with special shampoo. He was the shiniest white puppy for miles around - really you could see your face in his coat. But he still stank to high heaven for four days. There are some smells that just don't shift. I wouldn't have minded so much if he hadn't look so terribly pleased with himself.
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down Oh Karen , I feel your pain , my last Lab , a yellow girl called Tess was the devils own for this trick and yes, in the car it is nauseating , enjoy your wine and I bet Miss Poppy gets the fat
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down Ewwww....worse than the dreaded fox poo! Sounds like two wines are in order!
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down Pongo wants me to tell Poppy that she sounds like a girl he should meet, and would she like to visit his slurry pit soon?
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down
Pongo wants me to tell Poppy that she sounds like a girl he should meet, and would she like to visit his slurry pit soon?
Hahaha!!! Be careful with the slurry pit scenario though - when my sister lived on a farm in France one of the dogs went missing. They searched for him for hours and in the end they heard a kind of scream... He was in the slurry pit, unable to get out, had probably been in there for three hours and almost drowned. Sister had to hang on to brother-in-laws ankles, who had to reach down and grab Roger and drag him out... All's well that ends well, and they didn't even mind how much he stank, or that they themselves were covered in the stuff, too!
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down Oh dear.... Over the years I've found that when a dog rolls in something dreadful (fresh duck poo :-X - dead something or other :-X) or gets a bit too close to a skunk that the best defense is a combination of dawn dish soap and hydrogen peroxide. Into the tub for an overall good rinse down, an initial wash with dawn dish soap (It's super gentle, but cuts the "grease" that is associated with horrific smells - they use it to bathe wildlife after oil spills...) and a thorough rinse...and then I take several liters of warm water with just a tablespoon or so of dawn mixed in...and a whole pint of hydrogen peroxide....I use a good sponge and thoroughly soak the embarrassed dog in the tub....paying special attention to the neck, shoulders, and face as appropriate.... and let it set on there for a couple minutes....usually I start on the nasty spots, do the rest of the body, then back to the nasty spots...then a thorough rinse and rub dry.... It's time consuming...but at least it works!!! (I would think you would have dawn dish soap in the UK...)
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down What a girl - first shopping and now investigating the perfume counter!
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down Teehee naughty Poppy.......you've always got to watch the quiet ones
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down I don't think we have Dawn Dish soap in UK, have never heard of it. Guess it is like Fairy Liquid which you may never heard of ;D
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down Oh Poppy! I so know that scenario...Charlie rolled in something so bad on the beach last year that I had to stop the landrover on the way home to throw up! :
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down google and Wikipedia say that Fairy liquid is the same as Dawn - or very similar. Kills fleas too - I had forgotten that... ;D I also use it for stubborn laundry stains - like blood, wine, ketchup, etc. good stuff! 8)
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down
Oh Poppy! I so know that scenario...Charlie rolled in something so bad on the beach last year that I had to stop the landrover on the way home to throw up! :
Oh gosh. Lilly has been up close and personal with the poo fairy this week but this is another level.....
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down Poppy!Frankly I'm shocked! ;D I am not saying this in smugness as we don't have the same level of temptations but I actually think I've got a dog that doesn't roll .he never has ,and we've found nasty things so there has been some opportunity.his spaniel friend Oscar was rolling round in dead fish this morning, fastidious Dexter gave it a cursory sniff and ran on....
Yeah right. That's because you live in the DESERT,!!! I thought rather smugly that my dog didn't roll, too, until yesterday... : You wait until you live in the UK over the summer.... Poppy, Pongo (did you know something before you called him that?? ), Charlie, the SBD and Lilly will happily give dear Dexter lessons in the delights of rolling...
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down Riley doesn't roll 8) (fingers firmly crossed behind my back!)
Re: Head Girl Poppy lets the side down Willow doesn't roll and Shadow has only rolled once. Of course, they've not come across mud yet. Early days ;D
