Moderator Note: Sadly, in some parts of the world there is a tragic trade in tiny puppies barely able to walk. On the Labrador site we frequently get comments from people who have purchased puppies as young as 21 days old. Their owners will usually need help from a qualified veterinary professional if the puppy is to survive and thrive. Our forum policy is to encourage people to wait until their puppy is eight weeks old before collecting it from the breeder. To make sure we are not encouraging the trade in underage puppies, nor depriving these puppies of essential veterinary attention, we have the following rule. If a forum member’s puppy has been removed from the breeder/ mother before the age of seven weeks, that member must wait until their puppy is seven weeks old before posting about him or her on the forum We recommend that anyone with a puppy under this age contacts their vet without delay for instructions on feeding, general care, and medical treatment. We understand that members want to help these puppies, but the forum is not the right place to be distributing specialist advice of this nature. ************************************************************************************************************************************ Hello, my name a Alex and my girlfriend and I have just recently embarked on a new phase of our lives and purchased our first home. We decided that with our freshly built fence, a new dog was in order as well. Enter in Cooper, a 6-week old Black Lab puppy. He is super energetic and bitey, hahaha.
Welcome to you from Mags, Tatze and Mollie Tatze is my pet dog, a black Lab three years old. Mollie is my fourth Guide Dog puppy, a black Lab and she's thirteen weeks old.
Hi Alex , The Labrador Forum does not encourage or support the practice selling of underage puppies by that I mean puppies that have left their mother and litter before 8 weeks.Pippa has explained the reasons for this in detail here http://thelabradorforum.com/threads/forum-policy-on-underage-puppies.11455/ However,I'm really pleased you've found our Forum .Please feel free to read through the boards, there is a lot of of advice and information within them . I'm looking forward to hearing more about Cooper in a couple of weeks, Regards Angela
Hi Alex, Welcome to the forum. As Angela says, we don't feel we can offer advice to owners who bring puppies home before the age of 7 weeks minimum, preferably 8 weeks. We hope your puppy is doing OK, but please don't ask for advice until your puppy is a little older or we will need to lock your thread. Under 8 weeks we would refer you back to your breeder. Best wishes. Jac
Unfortunately Alabama is one of the states with no law, yet, restricting the age to sell puppies to at least 8 weeks of age. ONe thing you may find is that early removal from Mum and siblings did not give Cooper the time needed with them to work on his bite inhibition. There is no such law here in Ontario either, sad to say. https://www.animallaw.info/topic/table-state-laws-concerning-minimum-age-sale-puppies
