Thought i'd say hello, as i've never had my nose out of your forum or the Labrador Site since we decided (last week) that the time is right for us to get a puppy.

We lost our much loved 'puppy' (She was 11yrs but always my pup) 7 years ago now. Toya was a beautiful, funny and loving Yellow Lab, who will never be forgotten. I love the breed and have found a good breeder with a litter of Chocolate Labs. I'm hoping to chose a puppy when we can visit them at 5wks old.

Eeeekkkk... I cannot wait! I'm compelled to to read everything I can between now and 8wks (i've ordered the Happy Puppy Handbook & Total Recall) to prepare and hopefully not make the same mistakes we did with Toya aka 'Miss Selective Hearing'.... we'll see how that goes ;)

I'm so excited for my Children too, my son was 4yrs when we lost Toya yet he still talks about her regularly, my Daughter was under a year. Now they are 11 and 7yrs they're at a brilliant age to experience the friendship that come with growing up with a Lab.

Welcome to the forum from us, Hattie 6 years and our rescue Charlie 3 years. Good luck with choosing your puppy, how exciting for your children and they are at just the right age to take a little responsibility which I think is important. Have fun on the forum and ask all the questions you need to. You won't go wrong if you have bought Pippa's books :D x

    Hi Shelbel,

It's always heartbreaking when we lose our furry friends. I dread the day I lose my gorgeous yellow lab, she turned 14 on Saturday. But I bet you're so excited about getting a new pup. They bring so much into our lives. Keep us informed how you get on choosing. Will it be a little boy or little girl? And then you've got the fun task of choosing a name, bet your children will enjoy helping with that. Don't forget, we'll want to see photos of your new pup. :)

    Re: Hello!

    Thanks everyone :)

We are going for a little boy this time, choosing a name has already started - great fun!

I wish I could have accessed a site like this first time around. Reading the posts / stories brings so many memories back (Good, bad & hilarious!) The advice has changed somewhat, but in a really common sense way. I’d never even heard of a crate when Toya was puppy, but will definitely be getting one for our new arrival. I’m having to sit on my hands at the moment to prevent myself from buying everything puppy related that I see!

Hello and welcome :) sounds like you are getting very excited over a new puppy, hope you have fun with him :) Choosing a name can be quite hard until you see the dog you are getting, some dogs just have names that click

Welcome to the forum! I hope you really enjoy it here.

How wonderful that you are getting another dog after so many years. It does sound like the perfect time :)

Someone said to me recently that she makes a promise to all the dogs she has loved and lost that she will use what they taught her do even better with, and understand even more about, the next dog, and I think that is a lovely way of honouring the memory of our beloved (and remembered daily) previous dogs.
