Hi first time post, Need help my Lab wont settle down when im around always wanting to play, and biting us. She is 6.5 months beautiful we got her 8 weeks and after we had her for 3 weeks she fell off the lounge and broke her leg, So i got it fixed had to crate her for 6 weeks and make sure didnt run it , thats very hard a she is so bouncy , we had to force into her crate never propley trained her into it . now she sleeps on the lounge or with us in the bed . But back to the point i will get out of bed and first thing let her out to go potty then feed her then she will grab her rope and want to play , understand she is a puppy and thats whats needed , will take her for 20 min walk in morning and when i come back she wants to keep playing sometimes she will settle down and sometimes the biting starts . if i turn away she will come past and try to bite legs or forearm i grab here collar to settle her but she dosent like that ill stick her in a small room and leave here for 5 mins but then can start back up once out . My question is how to her from biting everyone so much and how much exercise is needed? as sometimes im up to midnight and have to leave her cause she wont settle
Hi @bigboi - I think we need some more information to be able to help. What exercise is she getting, daily? On or off leash? You've only mentioned a 20min walk in the morning on leash... Are you using the crate at all anymore? It is not clear from your post whether you have stopped that completely because your dog has negative associations with it after the crating due to the broken leg. What training are you doing with her, daily? Do you attend a group class?
Welcome to the forum! Jo's asked some good questions above, if you can answer them we'll be in a better position to understand what might be causing your problems. In the meantime, you can find information on how to make the most of exercising your Labrador on the main site here. You can also find information on dealing with biting here. Although it's aimed mostly at younger puppies you will still find it helpful hopefully.
Hi Jo Exercise is 2 walks a day also take to dog park every 2 or so days to socialize with other dogs and play fetch in backyard and house for about half hour twice a day . training occasionally now as im really busy with work , im on night shift , she is not in crate anymore she either sleeps end of the bed or on the lounge . What i notice over xmas day when we had family over she enjoyed it and it seemed enough to calm down at night . I hope this is enough , please feel free if there is anything else Cheers
