Hi all, My lab is almost 12 months now, he is loving, fun and a great dog etc. But, he escapes everything we put him in, crate, made a kennel and run, 5ft high, and he jumps/climbs it. He has wrecked everything in the house, sofas, cushions, shoes etc. Really quite depressed Can anyone offer any help
Hello Heidi, can you tell the forum about your daily routines with him, things like walks, time alone, training , feeding routines? I’m sure this will give the forum more of an idea of your situation and I’m sure you’ll get some good advice
Hi, I agree with @SianMJ let us know a bit more detail. Labs at a year old are pretty full on. Big puppies with buckets of energy and need lots of physical and mental stimulation. He is not being naughty, you just need to understand why he is behaving that way, then you can figure out a plan to amend those behaviours. Let us know his routine?
Like SianMJ said what is your daily routine especially as it relates to outside walks and runs. If I don't take mine out twice for daily several miles of walking and off leash trail running he'd be eating the plaster off the walls.
Usually whenever there is a behaviour problem which involves escaping or destructive behaviour, the dog is not getting their needs met on a daily basis... Including: Sufficient physical exercise, mental exercise (training, food puzzles), variety and changes of location (not just being shut up in a house or kennel all day) social needs (with other dogs if sociable or with people) and so on... To be able to help, we'd need more information about daily routines...
