    Hi everyone

Sorry it has been a while since I posted. Some of you may know that my lad Ash (almost a year old) got hit by a car on Boxing Day (car ran a red light and drove into us on a pedestrian crossing).

He had emergency surgery to repair a growth plate break as the end of the bone was knocked clean off. He had pins put into his leg at a cross angle & then had six weeks of restricted rest.

He was still limping at his 6 week X-rays and unfortunately they discovered a luxation which was severe. He was scheduled for more surgery and had a bone broken to make a new ligament channel, had a tension band added and more pins put in. It was a tough surgery due to the scar tissue. He's currently 3-4 weeks away from next xrays but the limp is much improved and he finally bears weight on the leg.

If anyone needs help with a similar injury (fingers crossed you don't) then do let me know. It's been a hard 13 weeks. Not being able to leave him alone, doing all the meds, the sleepless nights, entertaining him, insurance problems, & managing the behaviour problems having a lab pup stuck inside who was in pain in the early days & grumpy.

The end is finally in sight for us & fingers crossed he can go out soon and be back running around by the end of the summer.

    Carnie x

    Hi Carnie

What a rotten time you both have had.

I guess you are the story behind the headline. The accident was bad enough, but working through the last three months must have been awful.

I hope you both have a great Spring and Summer ahead to finish the healing in.

And I hope fervently that I never need to take advantage of your expertise.

Oh my goodness, what a horrid time you and Ash have had. But it sounds as if he is recovering now at last. Please, keep us updated on his progress. Fingers crossed he is soon out and about again. ;)

How awful for you and for Ash. The past weeks must have seemed like a lifetime. I hope the next xrays show that the healing is going well and you'll soon be back to a more normal routine.

Oh goodness what a tough time it's been! I hope he's on the road to recovery now though! Sounds like he's doing better so hopefully the next lot of xrays will give you some good news.

Are you allowed hydrotherapy yet? It's a good way to help him get the flexibility back in his muscles from being immobilised and to get the full range of motion back in a non weight bearing exercise.

The wound hasn't healed fully at the top fold yet but we are hoping to do some hydrotherapy. The pet insurance maxed out so we are paying ourselves now and the new bills are over £3,000 so it might be a few months till we can afford that.

I remember reading about this at the time. I hope you're through the worst and have a smooth path to full recovery now. It must have been a very trying time for all of you.

Kudos for wanting to help anyone else in a similar situation; that's what this forum is all about :)

Can you not get any money to pay for Ash's op and recuperation from the person who ran him over? What a terrible time you have both had, but pleased to read that there is now light at the end of the tunnel.

What an awful time you've had but so pleased that Ash is slowly recovering and that you'll be able to afford the hydrotherapy for him soon.

Stacia: the vet makes you sign a form saying how you will pay for the operation. We didn't have the money to pay up front so put it on our pet insurance. The pet insurer refused to counter claim against the driver. That is the standard thing apparently here in the UK. You have to pay vet bills yourself & claim direct with drivers insurance if you don't want it going on your own pet insurance. We are in the process of trying to claim our own out of pocket stuff but with ongoing bills and £3k costs above the pet insurance maximum it's been difficult & stressful. We had to sell loads of stuff and use hubby's bonus to keep on top of the bills.

You sound calm and on top of things in these posts - but it must have been massively stressful for all of you. All best wishes for a continued recovery for Ash, and well done you for somehow hanging in there and making it work out.

I remember you accident....glad to hear Ash is on the mend...but so sorry for the insurance nightmare and trying to juggle expenses.

Not dissimilarly...my husband was in a car accident a year ago...and while the car insurance and our health insurance is taking car eof most of the medical bills themselves...it's still a daily strain and struggle to manage the ripple effects on our finances...

Hope you can find legal/insurance resolution and get yourselves and Ash back on the straight and narrow in the coming months!
