..... Simba throws up. He was out for a walk tonight with my daughter - got a hold of a largish broken soft rubbery plastic ball. She tried everything she could to get it from him, but he ate it. :-\ We actually had passed the same stupid thing earlier in the day on a walk, and he picked it up but quickly dropped it - I didn't make a fuss about it. He ignored it on the way back. I didn't think to tell her about it.....should have picked it up and thrown it away. :-\ :-\ Now the worry.... .....
Re: Here's hoping.... I hope he's ok. Did he seem to chew it up a bit first? You will know if it is stuck and he is in trouble as it will be very painful and he will not want to eat. But their capacity to pass foreign objects is pretty high... It's highly likely that you will see it emerge. Whenever our dog ate something illegal like that, on the advice of our vet we used to give him liquid paraffin soaked into cotton wool balls. The cotton balls are a vehicle for the paraffin which is not digested by the body and so lubricates the whole digestive tract. Or you can give him paraffin in a small syringe or eye dropper - a dropper-full every hour. Or our vet also said that a large, fibre-rich meal can be good, like half a doz slices of wholemeal bread - that helps to create a large, soft stool that carries the object along and keeps the intestine open (in theory anyhow). If in doubt about what to do to help I'd call your vet. If it's any help, over his lifetime my previous Labrador also ate and successfully passed many non-food items including: - plastic vacuum cleaner parts - toothpicks - pantyhose (several occasions) - plastic bags (numerous) Fingers crossed that you see the ball again soon, one way or another.
Re: Here's hoping.... Oh it can happen in the blink of an eye...hope it moves through ok....keep,us posted.ive got everything crossed its ok x Rachael I still shudder about the tooth picks x
Re: Here's hoping.... Gosh and I'm worried about whether lilly is eating the plum stones or spitting them out . I do hop Simba is ok :-\
Re: Here's hoping.... Thanks for your concern everyone.... This happened last night while I and hubs were out. It must have gone down pretty much whole....he was in "flight" mode as he knew Sarah wanted it from him - went behind the chair with it in his mouth and emerged the other side with it gone. :-\ Spent a worried night....one really shouldn't Google things like this....HE slept fine, whiffing snores drifting up from where he was lying by the bed.... : OF COURSE I can't be home today...working today and tomorrow....ack.... Will take him for a short walk before I leave this AM to see if anything shows up....maybe some bread with brekki....I can come home for lunch, so that's good. Will keep you posted on any developments.....
