We are a family of 5 with a new puppy. We got him at 6 weeks old from a dog shelter. He was born on September 1, 2015. He is very young but already separated from his mother. We are in west Texas.

Oh my, so cute. :) I think I see some GR in there, that fur. Texas is one of many states restricting the age to sell puppies to after 8 weeks. I wonder if shelters are exempt? Or puppy had no Mum or siblings? The too early separation from his Mum and siblings might give you a little harder time with biting and chewing. If you do find that, there's lots of good reading on the board about it. Welcome.

Yes to the chewing but still so darn sweet. The owners had tried to sell him but no one bought him or two brothers. They were surrendered by the owners. I have never had a large dog so I really want to do it right. He is so sweet but he is chewing, me mostly. I put him in his kennel if he gets too wound up. His name is Zeus.

Hello and welcome! Zeus is beautiful - I agree with Snowshoe, maybe part Golden Retriever - a lovely mixture if so!

Six weeks is far too early for the poor little pups to be separated from their mother and siblings, and dumped in a shelter. Luckily he has ended up with you!

Thanks for the support. The vet keeps saying lab mix and he may have husky also. Ideally he would have been with his momma a lot longer. His potty training is going very well. He really loves to be with the family. We have 3 sons ages 17, 11, and 5.

    Welcome to you :)

Yes, he looks like he has some GR. My Twiglet(Guide Dog Puppy) is a Lab/GR cross.

    It's a great combination!

Hi there from Canada! Your pup might have some challenges due to being taken from his mum too early, I would recommend you do a little reading on it so you can be prepared. Also check out the Puppy Articles on the main site : http://www.thelabradorsite.com/labrador-puppies/

He is a cutie-pie, to be sure!
