Whilst under anaesthetic to be neutered, my 14 month old had x-rays of his hips done. They showed mild hip dysplasia in his left hip.

As he is not showing any symptoms atm the vet is not worried, although said it might cause him issues as he gets older.

I want to make sure I do everything I can to ensure he his comfortable for as long as possible! I'm looking into hydrotherapy and also joint supplements. Can anyone recommend what supplements I should give? And does anyone have any other advice on the best management?

    Thank you

The most important thing above all else with any sort of joint problem is to keep your dog slim.

The hydrotherapy and supplements will also help enormously. I've used Seraquin in the past and am currently using Yumove on my arthritic Lab. Do some research as there are loads of different ones around.

Don't worry too much about the diagnoses, many of these dogs will go through life without it ever causing a problem.

Yep, keep your dog very slim, and do everything you can to build up muscle - good quality food, the right kind of exercise.

I give my dog with joint problems supplements. But....I think the evidence for them working is very sparse indeed. We want to believe they work, because we want to be able to buy and feed something that will help. They probably don't though.

That said, I feed them because they *might* work, I have the budget for it, and I'm willing to spend the money just in case. But if I were on a tighter budget, I'd spend the money on hydro instead.

I use a krill oil based supplement, and salmon oil.
