Hi there has anyone had a lab with hip dysplasia if so what are the signs, again today someone told me milo runs funny on his back legs slightly to the left but he's very energetic and not limping or in pain am sure its just him being a puppy he's 8 mths, wouldn't he be in pain if something was wrong?
Re: hip dysplasia Hi , I always think that Lab pups have to grow into their legs , they so suffer from lack of co ordination at times If you are really worried, have a chat with your Vet , a simple examination is often sufficient to get a rough idea of the state of a dogs hips and if there is any grounds for concern , an XRay will tell you one way or another x
Re: hip dysplasia Hi Chrissie. My Lilly has severe bilateral hip dysplasia. First sign was limping after being out in snow and ice. Also a palpable (and now audible) "click" when getting up and down and when walking at times. No funny walk for us. Tendency to bunny hop when running though. It started when she was about 8 or 9 Months old. She will be 5 in May. No surgery yet. She was pretty difficult to diagnose. I second what Kate said about speaking to your vet if you are worried, but agree.....don't get hung up on a funny walk! They definitely need to grow into their legs. ;D
Re: hip dysplasia My Penny also has hip dysplasia. I initially took her to the vets for a limp after exercise when she was just under a year I think. She has always bunny hopped when running, but this is not necessarily a diagnostic sign - some dogs just do it, and as previous posters have mentioned labs are all gangly for a while and grow into their legs. I agree with everyone else though - if you are concerned you should speak to your vet.
Re: hip dysplasia We had Barney xrayed for hop dysplasia over Christmas due to a recurrent limp and an odd walk/run - which seems quite common in labs - almost Panther like. His X-rays came back clear on his hips and back legs, the limp has gone but he still has the odd walk/run. Have you asked your vet? Our examined him and thought it was unlikely he had it, but after the limp kept coming back we had xrays to make sure. He was 7 and a half months when he had them x
