I am so pleased at how well barley has done on his diet. At the start of the year he tipped the scales at 41.7kg, but now he is 37.6kg, he has done soooo well. The probelm with him was that he could not get longer/bigger walks because of his hips, so it was all down to food. he is now on 170g kibble and 200g wet food a day split between 2 meals, which in kibble is about 230g, this is half of his recommended daily allowance but he is now maintaining a steady weight, he gets a handfull taken out if we do some training and exchange it for treats, then on dog club nights he gets 2 handfulls taken out as we use up more treats. This is all compared to last year where he was on about 600g a day (different food) , but we realised that was too much in a 6 month gap between vet visits and he had gained almost 4kg. He now gets his food weighed out every day rather than a guess of 'that looks about right'. The vet is pleased as well, as it has relived some pressure on his hips
Re: His diet has worked Well done,he will be looking much sleeker but the main benefit is invaluable to his health.i haven't had to tackle this but from discussions I've read it's tricky to get right x

Re: His diet has worked Thats really good news , anything that helps the pressure on hips can only be good
Re: His diet has worked Well done, it's not easy to resist those sad doggy eyes, but it is definitely better for him with his dodgy hips. Gosh, he's lost 10% of his body weight!
Re: His diet has worked Well done!!! So many people don't succeed at getting their dogs to lose weight. I'm sure that Barley feels a lot better too

[/quote] Its very easy to resist those sad doggy eyes because it is not good for him, he has a certain allowance for treats, yes sometimes he gets a bit more than he is allowed but i just cut his food down.
