We have come to my parents for the night for xmas and there has been 11 of us, she has been great......apart from howling and crying whenever hubby or I leave the room, she has separation anxiety but we thought that was just if she was left alone.
It doesn't matter if the other is in the room with the others she still cries.

    Is this because of:
    New house
New people (she hasn't met my sisters lot)
The need to protect us both (mums house is huge and lots of stairs.
She will soon be having a season (7 months) she has been pretty bad. I slept down stairs with her.

    Thanks x

Oh, Esther, sounds like you have had a bit of a time of it.
Maybe she has just been a bit overwhelmed?
How has she been doing at home with you leaving her?

New house and new people - just a bit overwhelming as Jacqui says. It's not that she's trying to protect you, just that she herself feels more secure if she knows you're both with her. Possibly the impending season is having an effect too.

I'm sure it's not easy, managing everything and the moment, and her being upset. I feel for you. Are you heading home tomorrow?

We are going home today I can't put her through another night being stressed, we are still only doing about 5 minutes at the minute leaving her. We are putting her in her cage everytime we leave thr room to go up stairs as she can open the doors!!!! She was doing well at home but not here :(

Thanks for the replies guys x

We all have the 'Perfect Christmas' firmly in our headlights, but nobody has explained to the dogs what that means. To them it's a lot people, lots of noise (11 people make a lot of noise) lots of excitement. I truely believe they'd I up on our emotions however hard we try to disguise them.

No wonder Christmas is often stressful and confusing to dogs and children.

It might take a couple of days for things to calm down.

How about I wish you a Happy New Year and you draw a line under Christmas.
