Holly has a lump on the back of her neck. It wasn't there on Saturday so its appeared over the last 48 hours. I felt something this morning when she was waking us up, but its much bigger tonight. There are no obvious signs of a bite or cut, and she doesn't seem to be worried by it.

Our previous Labs had lumps, but I recall them appearing when the dogs were older. I think we'll book her into the vet tomorrow just to be safe.

Hopefully its just a small bite she has reacted to.
    Fingers crossed too

Has she had a recent injection in that area?

Poor Holly! Hope she gets it sorted soon and she is not too uncomfortable!

Bumps and lumps that develop that quickly are usually as a result of an inflammatory response, ie infection, bite or sting.

No injections or anything similar for months. The last thing to happen around her neck was Frontline, but that was two weeks ago. She had a tick on her shoulder about 3 weeks ago. The lump is about six inches away from where the tick bite was so I dont think that's the cause.

I couldn't see any puncture marks, but I'll have a closer look during this evening's snuggle (every night after our last play I sit of the floor and she snuggles into me - it calms her down).

Perhaps she's been stung or bitten and is having a bit of a reaction. There are a lot of flying things about at the moment.

    I hope everything is ok.

Poor Holly! Extra snuggles tonight. I'm sure it will be nothing, but the vet will put your mind at ease

Oh dear! Hopefully it's just a little insect bite and it will go away without too much of an issue. Let us know what the vet says!

    Thanks for your concern, everyone.

The vet thinks that it's a big bruise under the skin, probably caused by a traumatic injury of some sort. We'll keep an eye on it an take her back if it doesn't go away in a few days.

Just caught up with this - you must have been very worried. Poor Holly, but a bruise sounds like relatively good news. Hope you see it start to go down over the next week.
