Tried out the new dummy launcher today partly so Lady would know what to expect when we started some focussed training, and partly to scratch an itch to try it out.

Loaded it like gun pointing at the ground. Probably OTT I thought.

Held it as the instructions. Lady sitting next to me a bit intrigued.

Pulled back the firing toggle and let go.

Much bigger kick than expected from a 22 blank!

Much much louder bang than I expected. It sounded more like a shotgun than a launcher and the echo rattled around like anything.

Lady leapt into the air and legged it away from me. Stopped and looked round. Clocked the dummy just going over it's zenith and took off after it at full speed! ;D Retrieved the dummy good as gold.

Loaded it up again and this time Lady didn't bat an eye-lid AND waited for the "Get on" to go and fetch it back.

Mission accomplished. Training to pick up the blind retrieve and not the exciting one starts Monday. With the long line but probably not the launcher at first.

    Whoohoo!

PS Loading it like a gun defo not OTT.

I suspect my sleep tonight might be peppered with dummy launchers and Batman-clad men in tight underpants. Made me laugh. Very hard ;D ;D ;D

Actually, I have quite a good success rate ;D
First time I fired a shotgun I was about 20 or 21 - one shot, hit the clay, thought I would stop at that.
Many moons later we went on a team-building day with lots of outdoor activities (including reverse off road landy driving  )
Did rather well and had virtually a 100% record hitting the clays.
Even got 2 out of the 4 "rabbits" when they bounced the clays along the ground.

So there you go.......I could be part of the gun-doggy fraternity after all....didn't consider that ;D ;D ;D ;D

One of the reasons I very rarely use a dummy launcher myself is the unbelievable kick it gives. I think it could do serious damage to my wrist if held in the wrong way.

Glad you are enjoying your new toy, David. :D It is definitely a boys' toy! ;D ;)

The recoil is quite severe. There is a diagram showing the right and wrong way to hold, and having felt the kick, yes it could strain a wrist if held the wrong way, but no problem the correct way. Of course I'm now thinking if I added a weight to my hand it would help absorb the recoil and give greater range. ;D

Actually yes the first launch was quite funny to watch. If Lady could speak it would probably have gone something like -

"What are you doing? That's obviously a dummy on the end of that thing 'cos I sussed it out in the game bag when you weren't looking"

"Yipes! It's exploded in you hand! I'm off!".

"Hello! it's sent the dummy miles in the air. Woohoo he needs me to get it back (you know his knees are shot these days)! Wonder if I can get to it before it hits the ground.

"Here you are, Dad. Any chance of a reward? Oooh yes! Ta much."

"Can we do it again? Can we? Please? Oooh yes! Ears are ringing a bit though! He's definitely going to get complaints if he does that near houses if not a visit from the Boys in Blue."

    ;D
