No, really! How do you stop it all falling out? I put some kibble in one and wet it a bit and bunged it in the freezer. Is that it??? ???
Re: How do I stuff a kong? Hi Jane, I wrap the smaller hole with cling film before filling up with whatever I'm putting in the kong. Then wrap the whole thing in cling film and put in the freezer stood up (small end down). I used to leave it for about 1-2 hours when Harley was younger. Good luck x
Re: How do I stuff a kong? You can soak the kibble first until it absorbs all the water, or block the end up if you want to use liquids. I often block the small hole up as I often use liquids. Other people say they can successfully block the small hole with cheese etc. but I haven't been all that successful with that so use a huge bulldog clip if I'm freezing liquid. There are billions of kong filling recipes...
Re: How do I stuff a kong? At the moment, because it is so very hot, Molly is having 80% of her food in Kongs as I feel they act as an ice lolly for her. I have mastered the art of the fairly dry kibble mix, soft enough to shove in a Kong and not so wet that it adds to the pool of slobber she always makes when enjoying a Kong. I find that putting cold water on it and popping it in the microwave gives a good texture. I stand mine in a ramekin in the freezer. I'm not using her usual feeding toys, treat balls etc, much as all she seems to want to do is lay and pant.

Re: How do I stuff a kong? I put the Kong in a plastic cup, put some pieces of kibble in out of Tatze's and Fifi's allowance. Pour in hot water, wait 15 mins 'till it swells up. Then I pour off the excess water. Then I mix grated carrot and yogurt and fill up with that mix, then freeze. This way they can have lots of Kongs every day. (I have ten!!)
Re: How do I stuff a kong? Hi Jane, I soak the kibble it until it;s nice a mushy and then stuff the kong and let any water drip out before putting in a container in the freezer. Oh, and I top them with peanut better or cream cheese! Also, I've discovered that if you just smear the inside of a kong with peanut butter, etc, and freeze it, Maisie loves that as well. New favourite is Marmite :
Re: How do I stuff a kong? I was going to announce that I'd just filled the empty Marmite pot with water, microwaved it, and used it to add savour to Molly's Kong. Then I realised that in this august company that wouldn't be regarded as unusual
Re: How do I stuff a kong? No advice I'm afraid Jane as I'm still yet to master Kong Stuffing. We feed raw frozen mince and I am a little worried about defrosting and re-freezing in the kong.
Re: How do I stuff a kong? I don't use liquid fillings, so manage to block the end enough with a bit of kibble. Haven;t heard the marmite pot trick - think you have that as a first RECORDED event
Re: How do I stuff a kong?
much as all she seems to want to do is lay and pant.
Why? Why don't I have a dog like this? Charlie did 3 hours of exercise today, and it seems we managed to take the edge off his energy... Marmite pot cleaning for savory kong is genius - pot clean to be recycled too!
Re: How do I stuff a kong? Charlie is making up for lost time ;D Actually both my Labs are lying about and don't have nearly the energy my German Pointers had. They are quite happy with 20 mins in morning on lead and an hour every afternoon off lead; one is only two and a half! I think the summer weather calms them down (don't just mean this heatwave) and find when winter comes and all the scent of game birds and rabbits, they fire up again!
Re: How do I stuff a kong?
Chepi's given up on the long as she can't get the food out! :-\
Start with a nice small kong, soft food, unfrozen, to whet her appetite perhaps?
Re: How do I stuff a kong?
Chepi's given up on the kong as she can't get the food out! :-\
Chepi is only young. Tatze didn't really get into Kongs until she got her big back teeth. Even the puppy kong was given up on quickly when she was small. A bit of cream cheese or peanut butter smeared inside is enough for pupsters
Re: How do I stuff a kong? For your own sanity persevere with the Kong. A Kong gives me the best part of half an hours peace and quiet. Later this evening, when the sun has gone off the front garden I will tie Molly by the front door with a Kong. She will be happy, I will be happy and those pesky weeds will be history. Can you beat that.
Re: How do I stuff a kong? Chepi had 2 small kongs yesterday. I had to help her a bit but she seems to like it. When she got up this morning she went straight for the kong even though it was empty.
Re: How do I stuff a kong? Bless I had to help Harley for the first few, but after that she knew what to do and loves having them
