Went out tonight to a neighbour's, daughter followed after us half hour later.

Got home three hours later....yes, daughter had forgotten to check that doors were closed, etc.

    So, what did he eat?

Yet another undie from daughter's room....well, poetic justice, in my mind.

But of course....door to downstairs room where our pantry/laundry room is (actually two doors open to get there)....the two items eaten out of all the potentials?

Chocolate granola bar and whole box of dark unsweetened cooking chocolate.

Have spent the last two hours walking dog and then playing Wubba, fetch with glow in dark ball, the "find -it" game, more tug and fetch with Wubba....all with knotted stomach wondering if this time the chocolate will do him in.

He's eaten pure cocoa and survived....plus another dark chocolate candy bar, but still....

To top it off, I have no idea how he got that cooking chocolate. After the cocoa incident I had put all the chocolate from the kitchen down in the pantry (two doors to get through, right?), and even so had put it up on the higher shelves so that even if he got in there he couldn't get at it. It must have fallen onto the floor at some point? I dunno....seriously it's ridiculous.

So....it's 11:30 PM here. I want to go to bed. But going to have to endure the cocoa craze for a few hours, I think, and pray he will be okay. :-\ :-\ :-\

    Heavens - thinking of you.
Until we started doing serious research before getting our own dog, I'd no idea chocolate was even an issue.

Our 'step-dog' (Mr Stinky) that we had a decade ago (he would come and stay every weekend - long story...) once stole every chocolate decoration off the Christmas tree. Very neatly. I gave the kids merry hell despite their protestations of innocence. The culprit was only identified after the piles of dog poo in the garden the next day were found to be full of silver foil...

Didn't realise how lucky we were that there were no ill effects (apart from the fact that I needed to apologise humbly to the kids....grrrr...)

Here in England we could have phoned the vet so late at night and if he thought it necessary, could be treated. Do hope Simba is ok, what a worry for you.

Hi Lisa. Hope poor Simba is ok. When megs was young dog, she knocked christmas tree over to get the foil wrapped choc. We'd put them up high so she couldn't reach them. Luckily we were in kitchen, heard a crash and she came running to us frightened out of her wits. :) Labs will be labs.

Oh Lisa. I do hope Simba is ok. :-\

Cheeky chap that he is I bet he loved it. ::)

If its any comfort when I got Murphy I didn't know about all these things that are poisonous to dogs. Turns out I used to feed him quite a few he loved grapes !!! Stupid of me but sometimes ignorance is bliss I didn't worry as much as I do with S&S. ::). He never came to any harm lived to 15 . :D

    Fingers crossed :-\

    Re: I can't stand it

Well it's morning. Thankfully the sun is shining.

We have all survived the night...I think, jury is out on my poor hubs as it's 7:30 AM and he's still sleeping as I'm not sure when he crawled into bed but I'm pretty sure it was around 3:30 or so.

The 12:30 snooze previously reported was just a lull....pooch was up and racing around shortly after that. Hubs said he would do doggie duty and that he would stay up til 3 or so and if he needed to would get me up then. I did go to bed but couldn't sleep, of course. Went downstairs around 2, pooch still wired. Back to bed, tried to sleep but too worried to get much rest.

Heard them come to bed after that. Simba settled down okay so worst was over. Have to drive girl to work so am up now for the day.

Second son came practically crawling down the stairs, he injured his ankle playing basketball last night and can hardly weight-bear, but doesn't want to miss work as he's been doing a lot of overtime but he loses some of those hours if he takes regular time off. And of course he'll be on his feet most of the day.

Daughter comes upstairs to say our carpet is wet downstairs in basement....we have been having water issues down there which hubs is currently working on but really don't need to hear that. He's going to love it when I tell him when he gets up.

It's all a bit much on a day in which I've had limited sleep the night before.

Oh we'll....must be thankful for the good things:

    The sun is shining.
OH is a teacher so currently on holidays and has time and ability to fix things
Simba looks like he is going to be okay.
Son's work boot acts like a brace so he limped out saying he would manage
I have a hot cuppa beside me and I'm going to make more!
I have forum friends who understand all the worries of doggie ownership and give me support when I need :)

Oh Lisa....what a worry for you - only just seen this.
Things don't come singly, do they?
Hoping everyone comes out of this with no major harm done.
Keep drinking the tea. If all else fails and you are asleep on your feet, I hear a little dark chocolate can help
