Chepi has suddenly got little tufts of hair becoming loose around the top of her tail. Her coat looks pretty thick there. Does this sound like what your dogs have had?
Re: I feel silly asking but what is normal hair loss? As long as she isn't developing bald spots , I wouldn't worry too much Jane , sounds like normal hair loss , I was going to say normal moult, but then Labs seem to moult all year
Re: I feel silly asking but what is normal hair loss? Maisie is shedding like mad at the moment and the worst area is around her back legs and towards the end of her back where her tail is! Loads of it! I've been using the Zoom Groom, it's fab, Ican't believe how much hair it gets out
Re: I feel silly asking but what is normal hair loss? Loose fur tends to migrate to the butt, thigh and tail area. Often it emerges there in tufts. Grooming every day for a couple of minutes is the way to go, while major shedding is happening.
Re: I feel silly asking but what is normal hair loss? Thanks very much everyone. I had no idea! She hasn't shed before now. Your replies have been really helpful
Re: I feel silly asking but what is normal hair loss? Around about Lilly's hips there is often that loose tufty fur and it often looks a bit brownish - tends not to be too obvious elsewhere. I'm not a regular brusher though I will whip out my trusty zoom-groom if it it clearly shedding on my furniture!
Re: I feel silly asking but what is normal hair loss? After rescuing Jake at an approx age of 18 months after 3 months he start shedding at shocking rate so much we were really worried , Turned out he was losing his puppy fur as such he used to almost look like a teddy bear at times .
Re: I feel silly asking but what is normal hair loss? Just got my furminater (except it's a different brand) and I am just doing a little bit at a time but it is really effective around her haunches - where there was so much hair it was looking like felt! Had a pre spay meeting with the vet and he enforced getting rid of the dead hair. I am so daft I had wondered if it was nature's way of keeping her warm in the winter :

Re: I feel silly asking but what is normal hair loss? Not daft at all. I give my two a good brush when they start moulting for their winter coat then I don't really bother until spring. My two sleep outside so I think of it as a bit more insulation. Now that probably is daft.
