I have asked my Vet if I can stay with Millie on Friday until she has her pre med prior to her spay and bless them, they are more than happy for this . Millie is fine to be left at home whilst we are out but she gets anxious in strange situations , something we are working on but as a stray, its something that she may always suffer from . I feel ridiculously relieved that I can stay with her for the pre med, such a small thing but means so much to me and will help her I`m sure . Have had bitches spayed before but all were dogs I had owned from puppyhood , am just dreading Friday for our little soldier
Re: I know its silly but ...... Good on you - that is a terrific idea. I'm sure it will help Millie enormously. I'm sure she will come through it just fine - she has you in her corner after all
Re: I know its silly but ...... Really pleased your vet is happy for you to do this, and I'm sure Millie will appreciate it too Will be thinking of you both on Friday xx Clare
Re: I know its silly but ...... It's really good news that your vet will let you do this. Hopefully it will help relax her (and you) Will be thinking of you both on Friday
Re: I know its silly but ...... that is not silly kate,....it shows what a loving caring person you are,......good luck millie
Re: I know its silly but ...... Well done you I'm sure it will help Millie. This time next week she will be home and the worst will be over. Alice
Re: I know its silly but ...... That's a really good idea Kate. That's one of the things that worries me when mine need to have anything done and one of the reasons I'm reluctant to get them neutered. They are so nervous of strangers I think it would put all my work trying to desensitise them back to square one. I doubt the vet would be able to get them out of the cage!!!! : I've been considering neutering over the last couple of weeks. The rottweillers we walk with are in season and although they live a good 10/15 minutes away my two can obviously still sense it. They are also walked down our lane so the scent is around all the time. My two have been worked up, over excited and one night even howled !!!!! . It's driving me mad aswell as them. I'm very reluctant though to put them through an unnecessary op because of the nervous issue and I think it was something Pippa wrote (not sure) about neutering very nervous dogs can make them worse. I guess I only have to put up with this a few weeks a year !!!! ??? Good luck on Friday Kate I'm sure Millie will be fine. It will probably be worse for you than her.
Re: I know its silly but ...... I used to work for a vet and if the owner wanted they could stay until the pre-med sedative took effect and when the dog was sleepy and relaxed they would go. I am sure if they had asked they could have stayed until the dog was due to be operated on.
Re: I know its silly but ...... Thank you for your lovely words Millie is a very sociable little soul but gets very stressed if I am not around , even when Paul is there , its something we are working hard at, but it will take time and I was truly worried about leaving her . We know that given her last phantom pregnancy, its the very kindest thing to do for her , especially give her age ( about seven years we think ) she is more at risk of uterine infections but oh dear , Friday is going to be just horrible, thank goodness I have Sam to take out and focus on

Re: I know its silly but ...... Goodluck for Friday im sure Millie will be fine keep strong for your little doggy let us know how it all goes..
Re: I know its silly but ...... It is not at all silly. She will be far less stressed and that will be physically better for her. Showing affection and caring is never silly.
Re: I know its silly but ...... Kate, she will be fine with you in her corner. What a lovely thought to stay with her. She will be fine - and Sam will look after her too.
Re: I know its silly but ...... You know you are doing the right thing for her, Kate. With you there she'll be much calmer and won't know anything until she comes round
Re: I know its silly but ...... That's great the vet is allowing you to stay with her! I know ill be super worried when Penny eventually goes for speying, even though I've seen hundreds of dogs through it in my time working in kennels , it's always different when it's your own dog!
Re: I know its silly but ...... Will be thinking of you tomorrow Kate, you will feel so much better being able to stay with her...hope you get a nice weather day then you can take Sam for a nice walk to keep you occupied while she is in surgery x
Re: I know its silly but ...... I do understand how you feel Kate, I have had five bitches spayed over the years and watched countless bitches spayed (was vet nurse) but chose to have male dogs in the last few years as couldn't stand the worry about having a bitch spayed even though I knew by experience that all would be well. So I will be metaphorically holding your hand tomorrow. You are doing the right thing, if left you could have a much older dog with pyometra which means the dog would be very ill and old and so much more at risk. Friday evening will soon be here, chin up until then xx
Re: I know its silly but ...... Thanks all , I have no doubts whatsoever that its the right thing to do for Millie , its just hard as she has begun to trust us 100% now and follows me everywhere like a little lamb , I shall be in bits tomorrow, daft so and so that I am :
Re: I know its silly but ...... We'll be thinking of you tomorrow and on the lookout for the good news xx
