Off out in a few minutes to take Lady for her evening walk. She will swim but reluctantly unless she's retrieving a bird in which case she just goes for it without a pause (whoosh in and across). Well I've got 3 punctured tennis balls and I'm going to see if she will retrieve out of the river. ;D She will swim from gently shelving shores but not keen on the river where it's straight into deep water. I've got a kinda feeling this may not work ........
Re: I may be gone some time ..... Going to Cornwall tomorrow (just a long weekend to keep me going before the hols) - can't wait for Charlie to see the sea again. Although we might try a river this time, the sea is a bit scary, I think.
Re: I may be gone some time ..... Well that went well ........ ....... not! ;D Have a great time in Cornwall Julie. charlie will love the sea.
Re: I may be gone some time ..... Hope it goes ok David , Sam is funny now that he swims properly, he will now launch himself in, not quite Tom Daley elegance yet though The weather here in Cornwall is lovely right now Julie , have a great time Funny about the sea, my old Lab Tess would swim in rivers and lakes but never liked the sea : Oh, just read your post David , dearie me :
Re: I may be gone some time ..... Lilly won't go in the sea unless she accidentally chases a seagull in ;D She loves the little pools in the dips before the main event though : And like Lady she prefers a gentle slope in rather than an Alice-like leap! (Oops @ Lady!) Jac

Re: I may be gone some time ..... Wow, wow, wow!i and can imagine the speed of that leap too, superb!
Re: I may be gone some time ..... No shots of the landing, David, but this is just prior to take-off ... ... in the water ... and coming back with the retrieve ;D These shots were taken during a spaniel water test, and I was very proud when she did win an award
Re: I may be gone some time ..... beautiful, I love that puffed out chest when the excitement is barely contained ;D
Re: I may be gone some time ..... Great photos, that middle one of the water movement is fab, and a lovely shot of her face. Really lovely.
Re: I may be gone some time ..... Thanks guys. I can't take any credit for the photos, I was too busy handling Alice! They were taken by a pro photographer and the event cost me an absolute fortune buying photos of two of my dogs of her. ;D But well worth it.
Re: I may be gone some time ..... Lovely photos Heidrun - that' how Poppy retrieves from the water too - quivering excitement until sent for the retriev, then she FLINGS herself into the water, flying meters through the air! All my dogs have loved swimming and retrieving from water. They don't seem to like me swimming though, and insist on 'herding' me back to shore... My first-ever lab, Leo, was afraid to swim to begin with. But one day he gently slipped into the water to follow a family of geese - the look on his face when he eventually realized how far from shore he was, was priceless! ;D . But he never had any fear of the water again. In fact, I've had to be quite cautious about where I let them swim. This leaping into the water is all very well, but you need to know how deep it is, and what's under the surface (rocks, sticks etc).
