I have just had a look at some of the things I have purchased off the net ( most of it has been hidden away from my husbands view) and I have got more than I realised and there are loads more of 'essentials' I need to purchase, Like a puppy sling!
I think I need to curtail some of this spending!
What was the one thing that you purchased for your puppy that was invaluable?

Wow Nicola , thats one heap of items ;D ;D ;D

I didnt buy a lot for Sam as we already had a resident dog , so I didnt need toys . However , I did get him a teddy bear which is now a bit short on limbs but loved all the same :)

Wow, that is a lot of things :)

The most invaluable things I brought were:
    Kongs
    Crate
    Beds

I can tell you are very excited about getting your pup :D

Hi Nicola, I haven't bought a lot of toys - just kongs - thought I might use cardboard boxes and empty plastic bottles. Didn't like the idea of squeaky, furry toys. I have the crate (house and car), crate divider, various vet beds, finger toothbrush, training treat bag, interactive-find-the-treat game, poo bags, travel bowl, training treats (seen in a magazine), puppy cuddle pal that you heat in the microwave and a brush, collar with identity disc, 3 way lead and a new towel (washed) to leave at the breeders with my scent.
I need bowls! Knew I'd forgotten something!
I think the crate and the divider might be the best thing, followed by the kongs - we shall see!

What did your last dog really like?

I know, didn't quite realise how much I had got until I got it all out! ???
I have plenty of kongs and vet bed the only thing I really want now is the sling and maybe another soft toy ::) lol

She liked plastic bottles, cardboard boxes and rope toys!! :-\
Mmm so I haven't really taken anything from my 1st experience!
I blame my girls, they make me buy it! ;)

Nah, keep buying - go on, you don't get a puppy very often. Buying stuff is half the fun. ;D ;D ;D

It was due to be in 2 weeks time but the breeder has said she will put dates in the diary from 30th May and will ring me to arrange a date next week!
    I was not pleased!

Frivolous spending on puppies is the law ;)

My list is as bad your purchases, what did I really need for a new puppy is a completely different question.

    Need
Vet bed: we already had everything else.

    Bought
    New bowls
    Toys
Kongs and the hugely expensive stuff you squirt in them
    More toys
    Slip leads
    New whistles
    more toys
Clickers, one for each of the family
    Did I mention toys?
Relegated perfectly good towels to become dog towels, result - buy new towels for people
    New collar
Training books to add to the ever growing collection which essentially all tell you the same thing (sorry, Pippa)

    Best toy
Plastic bottle with a little water in it
Old bit of thick rope with frayed ends
    Cardboard boxes
    Plastic flower pots

Nicola, this "running order" of viewings has got me confused a bit. I am guessing it will turn out ok as the breeder is experienced and I think fair minded. I am going to try to avoid going on a day when other people are there.
Why aren't you pleased about next week? Do you think the litter will be too young or does it just mess up your schedule? Sorry if I am being too nosey ???

Oh yes, I have several clickers and a new shiny red whistle with matching lanyard. AND I found a bit of old rope that I have fashioned into a "thing" - not sure if I will use it for anything.

    Hi Jane,
Apologies my post didn't read very well.
We were due to go and see the pups at about 4 1/2 weeks which will be in 2 weeks time ( this is the age she said she normally lets people pick their pups) but when I contacted the breeder yesterday she said she will arrange for us to go and see the pups from the 30th May by which time they will be almost 6 weeks old.
She is ringing me next week to arrange a date from the 30th onwards.
I know it's only a week or so later than planned but were busting at the seams with excitement!
We would go tomorrow if we could!

It's a hard wait, isn't it? My breeder always said 6 weeks as they are more mobile then. It's AGES away  I think mine will be about the 7th June. Gosh, not that long really.
Off to read my new dog magazine now.

It's really addictive buying for a new lab puppy isn't it

We've bought, vet bed, kongs, a bed (my wife won't let me buy a crate or a cage as she calls it -sigh-) and a massive 15k bag of puppy kibbble which was not enjoyable holding while waiting to pay for

hope you have fun seeing the pups and choosing one!

Haha - I did the same and it's great fun!

In fact I still love browsing and buying for Tatze at 12 months old.

    Most useful buys?

    Crate
    Vet bed
    Kongs
    Pro-fibre for squitty tummies
    Nylabone keys for teething

    :)

Oh - and one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/PoopPac-Walkers-Carrier-Dispenser-Emerald/dp/B00H6VGDKW/ref=sr_1_28?ie=UTF8&qid=1399570981&sr=8-28&keywords=poo+bag+carrier which I have used every day, I wear it round my waist like a bum bag when dog walking - it's fabulous!

Oh yes, also got the nylabone teething keys, thanks for saying they are worthwhile. Just looked at the poo bag carrier thingy. Interesting!
