What Charlie does when left alone: image by julieandcharlie, on Flickr Sorry about the jail bars thing! It has to be outside his pen, or he'd eat it! And it needs mains power. It's a smart bit of kit. I can pan and zoom around his pen. It has infrad red so I can check him at night without light. I can set noise and motion alerts. I like it. I have to say, it wasn't very easy to set up, and I had to fiddle a bit. It took me 2 hours, and I'm good with IT. Also, I can't get it working over 3G (yet, I haven't given up) - the picture was taken with me stood in the street, still in range of my wi-fi. It's not perfect, but I like it. I'm not sure yet that it will work over a mobile network though. My main reason for having it - I sleep very deeply, and if Charlie is distressed in the night, I don't hear him without a monitor. It's an iPad/iPhone app based thing, and the app drains battery like there is no tomorrow. But I just plug the iPad in next to my bed, so no probs with that. On the move might be tricky though.
Re: ibaby monitor Glad you got it to work hope you get the 3G and wifi sorted Harley does the chilling, lying down after eating her kong/rice bone etc
Re: ibaby monitor Pretty similar to my yellow fellow too! What a great bit of kit!you are superwoman.....I'd have ended up locking myself in the dog pen and refusing to come out if I had to focus on 2 hours of IT :-[ im notorious for being a 'plug it in and it better work girl! I'm going to show chris tomorrow though, our ac totally sound masks our bedroom so Dexter would need to do a reasonable bark on the night to rouse us.....I am a light sleeper though.i only ever heard his 5 .15 'wuff' last year because I was up already! Hope this works for you if you need it but I also hope it doesn't disturb your lovely deep sleep ,you lucky thing x
Re: ibaby monitor Charlie hasn't yet barked - not even if he is ill, needs desperately to go to the loo, and no-one is coming. He has been poorly twice in the night since we had him (13 months) and needed to go out. Both times OH has heard him moving around, distressed, but I've slept through. So with OH away on business trip soon...I'll be glad to have the motion alerts, I think...
Re: ibaby monitor
Not a ringing endorsement on ease of set-up though!
No. Although to be fair - lots of people (according to Amazon reviews) say they found it easy. The problem I had was that the camera seemed to lose settings when I unplugged it (from having it connected to my modem) when I needed to move it into Charlie's pen. Having first thought I needed a 50ft cable between modem and pen : the problem was simply solved by selecting "remember password" on initial set up, and being very close to the modem and camera when the app re-searched for the camera.

Re: ibaby monitor Wow that's a pretty cool peice of kit! Such a great idea too if you want to keep an eye on what he's up to.
Re: ibaby monitor That's pretty good! We've got an outdoor camera on our front gate and you can check that anywhere on your phone. Can't own or zoom, but the daytime and infrared images are really good. Wonder if that might be ok for an indoor setup?

Is it wired or wireless - or could you install another? I might investigate wired solutions. My wired house CCTV can be viewed remotely, but it's not cheap to extend it... I'm in bed, and I can check my boy is all snug.. - ok, unnecessary, but I like it! image by julieandcharlie, on Flickr
Re: ibaby monitor Ours is wireless and it sends everything directly to the computer. You access that on your phone using an app. It'd be easy to add another. It's a Foscam camera using SecuritySpy software.
Re: ibaby monitor Wow. What a neat idea. I will have to have a look at those. As yet I have no left Milly alone out in the house anywhere. She is in her crate when I'm not supervising.

Re: ibaby monitor It's pretty big though...if you set it up inside your lounge room would look like a shopping mall....but it's a good unit otherwise
Re: ibaby monitor Just to add: After a bit of time I have a funny thing with this. To set up the audio alerts, you need the audio enabled (obviously). There is a strange static type noise, from time to time, which wakes me up. It can be solved by closing down the app on the iPad and restarting. But it's a dreadful pain to be woken at 3am to do this! It might not be the device, it might be my iPad (which is new and has no other problems). I do not think it is likely to be interference. But it's a problem I'll have to solve or look for another solution.
Re: ibaby monitor My baby monitor does this if i have the sensitivity set too high.....just a late night thought
