So this morning Myles was a happy, goofy, playful boy. Just his normal self. Then he all the sudden looked back at his tail area, almost like he had a sudden itch that he couldn't get to. But he was REALLY trying to get something back there. So I helped him and just scratched all his back and rear in case he just couldn't reach something . But after that he really started sulking and just laying down. If I could coax him up he would still turn his head around to look at his rear area. Almost like his tail is injured? And he's just mopey now :(. I have to go to work and the sitter will check in on him in a couple hours. Does this sound familiar at all?

What does his tail look like? Is it limp? Or a bit of it straight then hanging down?

His tail has always had a slight curve to the left, but it hangs normally and I always just thought nothing of it. Nothing looks weird to me, not like limber tail descriptions where it's straight and then curves down or looks limp. It just hangs normally but it did seem like when he wagged it it bothered him.

Worms? A flea? Anal glands? You are so right about if it's not one thing it's another. Why can't they speak?

I would check with the vet about limber rail. When Harley had it she kept looking at her back end and trying to get to it. It bothered her to wag her tail so much that she hardly wagged it. She suffered and ended up struggling to go to the toilet as she couldn't get her tail out of the way. If it is you might need anti inflammatories and/or pain killers.
    Hope he's ok x

Well maybe it was a fluke, I haven't seen him do it since. He has always been a pup who looks back and notices his tail, and will often chase it. But this morning it looked like something suddenly "attacked" him, like a pain. But all has seemed normal since. I will just keep an eye on it. Thanks all, I think I might be battling some of you for most neurotic pup parent .

Oh poor Harley! I was initially concerned it might be that, but symptoms don't seem to be the same. Poor girl, that sounds like it was miserable for her :(

Has he been stung? By a bee or wasp? Sounds very similar to Casper who had a bee sting on his bottom. He kept staring sadly at his tail in a very accusatory fashion for a while and is still sensitive to anything that buzzes close to his nether region

We just got back from vet (I completely forgot to mention the tail thing to him, I think it was nothing). But Myles still not all that interested in drinking water and as of 2 days ago seems he's having issues peeing. Pet sitter said he was rushing to get out to pee when she was coming to check on him (after only 2-3 hrs). And she took a video of him peeing (trickling) for a minute and a half. So off to vet and he took ultrasound and confirmed urinary and prostate infection. So we're on meds now. He also brought up neutering (Myles is 8 months) because of the prostate. I was trying to wait until at least a year and a half. I will have to research it but obviously if he's having prostate issues and neutering will help I will seriously consider it.

Then we discussed his severe car anxiety and vet offered to give him a sedative shot so I could get him home without anxiety. Oh my I had no idea what this would do to him. He is OUT cold. And I have terrible mommy guilt for letting him give it to him. Never again.

Been a rough 2 weeks with diarrhea, ear infection, now urinary and prostate infection. Ugh :(

Oh that's rough, he's got a lot going on. A lot for you to think about. Thank goodness he's on meds so that should ease his discomfort. Did the vet say what may have caused the infection and how would neutering him help? I hope he feels better soon, it mustn't have been nice to struggle with his wee.

Poor lad, must be uncomfortable. I guess the vet is concerned re: prostate and the risk of recurrent infections leading to a more chronic problem.
Hope he feels better soon! :)
